A RARE AND EARLY 1908 STEIFF TEDDY BEAR; Circa 1908, with 'STEIFF' period button to right ear. Original boot button eyes, blonde mohair. Fully jointed limbs. Good pronounced snout and woodwool stuffing. The snout having black stitching to end, with black stitching also to ends of arms and legs. 13" tall. Comes with a valuation from The Old Bear Company, in 1996. From a personal and private collection of antique Steiff teddy bears, amassed over many years.

Pronounced snout with defined hump to rear. Provenance; Bear comes with his lifelong 'bed' - a Victorian / Edwardian small cloth bound childs trunk, a photograph of the original owner (pictured with a toy), a collection of counting blocks and various other 'bedding' for the bear. A fantastic collection of provenance which, under direction of the vendor 'must never part with the bear.' 'GEORGE' AN ORIGINAL AND RARE c1908 STEIFF TEDDY BEAR; 16" tall. C1908. Blonde mohair, boot button eyes, early type button to right ear. Woodwool stuffing, hump to back, pronounced snout with elongated arms. The legs, arms and head being jointed. This very bear was used by ' Miller's Collecting Teddy Bears & Dolls' (page 28), as a reference. A copy of the book is supplied. Measuring around 4ft tall, the bear comes complete with the original glass eyes and blue neck ribbon. The standard sized small label to the side being from Chad Valley. Rare to see in this large oversized form.

A coromandel wood vanity box, with fitted interior and silver mounted jars, initialled, bears a plaque, C Asprey Manufacturer 166 Bond Street, 30.5 cm Condition report Report by NG Losses to brass stringing and small patches of veneer to exterior. Cover with large split from one side to the other and crossing at inlaid brass name plate, inscribed Edith, other small cracks also. Interior: the velvet inset to cover with silvered closing clasp present but detached therefore will not hold leather mounted top closed. Eight of silver covers bear matching monogram (EGM), six of these hallmarked London 1856, two bearing no hallmark, the other matched, unhallmarked, missing glass base, hallmarked London 1865. Interior lacks manicure set. Two divisions to row of five bottles broken but present. Drawer empty. Asprey brass plaque inset between two hinges.
