A woven tapestry, probably French, late 18th/ 19th century, approximately 261 x 246cmCondition Report: Wear throughout commensurate with age and use. Fading and discolourations to tapestry overall. Some small holes and tears to the main filed (refer to images for extent). Some old stitched repairs to these holes/tears. Various 'pulls' to threads and some losses. The floral scroll decorated borders are original to the tapestry but have areas of significant loss to the dark brown/black thread which are now bear revealing the underlying weft and warp. This might appear from images to look like the borders have been added. Strips of later thread have been stitched to the backs of all edges to secure. Some later stitching between different colour areas. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to conditionThe main fields of the tapestry appear largely machine woven, the joins between these areas are hand stitched. Some of the finer details of the tapestry are hand woven. The tapestry appears to be a blend of the two techniques. Viewing the reverse of the tapestry reveals the methods by which it has been constructed. Condition Report Disclaimer
