Lots 142-149The following eight lots have been removed from Wildings in Welwyn, Hertfordshire, formerly the home of George and Eileen Soper. George Soper's work comprises a significant and evocative record of rural life before the Second World War. His youngest daughter, Eileen, was a successful and popular illustrator and printmaker, perhaps most fondly remembered for her illustrations for the entire series of Enid Blyton's 'Adventures of the Famous Five'.What is not so well known about Eileen is that she was a member of the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Engravers (RMS) and a member of the Society of Wildlife Artists (SWLA), with many books on wildlife and paintings and drawings to her name. Her elder sister, Eva, delighted the public with her exquisite models of birds, produced by the Royal Worcester Porcelain Company for 49 years. The Sopers were a remarkable family, George being a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers (RE), whose artistic achievements have now been recognized. A collection of over 700 original works covering the range of the family's output has been designated by the Arts Council as being Pre-Eminent and therefore considered of National Importance. A home is being sought for The Soper Collection.
