Lot No: 7 - Ref No: 047 Smarter than Your Average Otter By Scott Howard Summer Holiday Home: Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre, Postbridge Scott Howard is a Graphic Designer at a brand management company in Exeter. Living just outside of Dartmoor in the small country village of Ashton, he is surrounded by natural beauty and wildlife. "My design is based on Yogi Bear and Boo Boo. The duo work well as a team of otters out to steal picnic baskets in the national park. These are fun, energetic well-known characters that bring back fond childhood memories. They have a strong link to the park, Yogi's antics are centred around the fictional Jellystone Park based on the American Yellowstone Park. This sculpture is designed to inspire families to enjoy picnics in Dartmoor National Park. The items strewn around the pair tell a story of their path of destruction in order to get their hands on the picnic basket through a crafty scheme using a fishing rod to reel it in." This Otter is a 'Golden Otter' - one that has been specially selected by a panel of expert judges as being particularly stunning. Of the 81 Moor Otters there are only 25 Golden Otters. These Golden Otters will take their online bids to the live auction on Saturday, 2nd October 2021 at Bearnes, Hampton & Littlewood, Okehampton St, Exeter. You can continue to bid on these otters at the live auction in person or online.

Lot No: 62 - Ref No: 053 Costentyn By Chris Thorn 'Costentyn' is the Cornish name for this pair. They have left their 'family home' on the South bank of the Tamar, to lend support to their Devon cousins. Maybe they might return, or might they move even farther afield? Let's see. The main decoration is based on various elements of Devon landscape, (tor, river valley, forest, meadow) not normally seen together, but composed with some perspective to suggest they could 'get along'. Keen eyes may spot three Harvest Mice set in separate cameos among some local flora. Oh, and Pooh bear? Our youngster brought his best pal along for the journey. Costentyn derives from the Latin name 'Constantinus', taken from 'Constow' - 'Constans' and meaning - stand still, resolute, solid, firm, tenacious, determined. Describes our otters (and perhaps the project)

Bear: An unmarked mid-20th century teddy bear with stitched nose and mouth, padded paws, showing signs of love, height approx. 11"; together with two Golly soft dolls, both showing signs of wear, unmarked, height approx. 13" and 17". (3)These items are listed on the basis they are illustrative of a bygone culture in which there were different social norms. We understand the potential controversy surrounding this type of item but believe that providing transparent information about historical context fosters greater understanding of our complex cultural history.Originally handmade by mothers in Africa for their children from fabric and cloth, the golly doll was adopted as the mascot and trademark for the Robertson's Confectionary brand around 1910 after the companies founder John Robertson visited the US and noticed children playing with them. Robertson's Gollies have been collected by people across the UK and around the world for generations but garnered a contentious image in the 1980's because of links to racism. The trademark was removed from Robertson's branding in 2001.
