A Pair of Diamond Cluster Earrings, a raised central round brilliant cut diamond within a border of smaller round brilliant cut diamonds, in white claw settings, total estimated diamond weight 1.50 carat approximately, with post fittings see illustration . The earrings are in good condition. They do not have matching butterfly backs. They bear no hallmark nor stamp but in our opinion would test as gold. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; colour J/K/L, clarity I1/I2/I3. Gross weight 3.66 grams. CR made 04.06.20.
A Pair of Edwardian Diamond and Pearl Drop Earrings, circa 1900, an old cut diamond suspends two chain links to a trio of diamonds with a pearl drop centrally, the chain links extend to a cluster of old cut diamonds suspending a larger pearl, in white millegrain settings, total estimated diamond weight 0.50 carat approximately, drop length 4.3cm, with hook fittings see illustration NB: the pearls have not been lab tested . The earrings are in fair condition, one diamond has been replaced with a paste stone. They bear no hallmark nor stamp but in our opinion would test as gold and silver. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; colour I/J/K, clarity I1/I2/I3. Gross weight 3.32 grams. CR made 19.06.20.
Judaica.- Esther Scroll, written on 4 vellum membranes sewn together, in 18th century Sephardic square script in brown ink in 15 columns with between 25 and 29 lines per column, within elaborately-illustrated engraved borders and green painted rule, the panel at front and rear featuring blessings, opening panel with border vignettes depicting scenes from the book of Esther, vignettes of biblical scenes in lower border and landscape scenes above, some rubbing at beginning and with 3 small holes in opening panel, preserved in turned wooden tube with removable top, 202 x c.1690mm., Amsterdam, c.1720.⁂ A fine illustrated megillah, similar to other examples produced in Amsterdam in the first quarter of the 18th century. The engraved vignettes surrounding the opening panel depict Esther and Ahasuerus seated on a double throne, the hanging of Bigthan and Teresh, Mordechai refusing to bow before Haman, Haman leading Mordechai through the streets of Shushan on the king's horse, the hanging of Haman and his ten sons, and Esther and Mordechai writing the Purim missive. Some scrolls bear portraits in the panel above the text; others, like this, feature landscape scenes. Overall in very well-preserved condition.

James) [Second Voyage] A Voyage towards the South Pole, and Round the World..., 2 vol., first edition, engraved portrait by Basire after William Hodges, 63 engraved maps and plates after Hodges, some folding or double-page, folding letterpress table of languages towards end of vol.2, large chart of Southern Hemisphere soiled and frayed at edge with slight loss to imprint (reinforced, also at fold), one or two other tears to maps repaired, title of vol.2 lightly browned and reinforced at fore-edge, a couple of plates shaved at edge affecting imprint, light browning to a few plates but generally clean, with manuscript presentation mounted on front free endpaper, with bookplate of Richd. Blake Deverell Esq. of Clifton, contemporary mottled calf, rubbed, rebacked with gilt spines and red morocco labels mistakenly reading "Last Voyage", corners repaired, [Hill 358; Mitchell Library Cook 1216; Sabin 16245], 4to, for W.Strahan and T.Cadell, 1777.⁂ The manuscript inscription reads, "To Thomas Harvey Boyse R.N. with the sincere best wishes of his affectionate aunt, Mrs. Harvey. A remembrance of his distinguished Greatgrandfather, the late Admiral Sir Henry Harvey K.B. - to whom this Proof Edition of Cook's Voyages was presented by the Admiralty...22 September 1853".Admiral Sir Henry Harvey KB (1743-1810) took part in many naval engagements during the American and French revolutionary wars, distinguishing himself as commander of H.M.S.Ramillies at the Glorious First of June. He also took part in Commodore Phipps's polar expedition in 1773 on which a young midshipman, Horatio Nelson, had an encounter with a polar bear.

Archive of the Medlicott Family of Dunmurry, Co. Kildare In 1714 George Medlicott, youngest son of Thomas Medlicott, a London barrister and MP for Abingdon in Berkshire, acquired an estate at Dunmurry, Co. Kildare, and Dunmurry remained the seat of his descendants until it was sold in 1955. The papers in this archive date mainly from the period 1850 to 1950 and form a valuable insight into the running of an Irish landed estate during those troubled times. They include: · Folder containing a few early items, 1812-1847 · Ledger giving details of farm and household income and expenses from 1848 to 1855. Bound in ¼ calf. 37.5 x 15.5 cm. · Marriage settlement of James Edward Medlicott of Dunmurry with Margaret Davidson on 11 October 1859. 3 large membranes. · Bundles of bills, receipts, business letters, etc, c 1850 to 1950. · House account book, Dunmurry, Sept 1920 to Sept 1921. 16 x 10 cm. · "Farm account book". Contains only 4 pp of farm accounts, for January and February 1927. (The rest is taken up with lists of film actors, and answers to quizzes, and scores.) · Folio diary for 1946, with many insertions - bills etc. · "County of Kildare. Half-yearly statement for the half-year ended 31st March 1901. Including abstracts of proposals for payments, and also for new works or involving new contracts …" Approx 200 pp. · 4 Farm accounts books 1913, 1914, 1915, 1916 · Farm accounts book (wages) 1925-1928 · Farm accounts Book 1929-1931 · Edward James Medlicott diary 1942 (but in vol for 1941) · Althea Medlicott's chicken diary 1947 (Jan to May only) · 39 small diaries, all 11 x 8 cm, covering most of the years between 1870 and 1917; diaries for 1920 and 1932 (mostly blank) and one other There is also a file on the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway, including a diagram showing position of 60-feet girders renewed and to be renewed from Bombay to Wadhwan (dated in MS 1.7.[18]98. 21 x 34 cm. 6 ff on cloth, interleaved with paper). Also a number of personal letters, including one from a daughter Mary written as a small child: MY DEAR PAPA I LOVE YOO VERY MUCH, I HOPE I WILL SOON COME BACK TO YOU. HOW IS WEEWEE? THE WAVES ARE VERY ROUGH TODAY. I WAS OUT THIS MORNING BUT IT BEGAN TO RAIN. YOUR LITTLE MARY. Some of the letters deal with a family crisis involving James Edward Medlicott (1827-1913) during which his wife Margaret went to live in Dublin, whence she writes, with many underlinings (for example): "One word more. Do not dread exposure. As long I am so openly on good terms with you, there will be no exposure, because you must not pay hush money. Only do tell me how you were drawn in and when? Why did you not cut her in '77? Do say if you pay any one else. Do! I can bear all now. Remember you are very terribly laughed at about that vulgar brute E. Farrell. Take care, be more circumspect - more dignified. Don't make those vile jokes. And above all, don't joke with Mary Anne, Andy's sister. Remember it would be all over this place if you do. For I shall at once dismiss her. Now be brave and true and tell me all. Your loving wife MM. But very very unhappy wife. I am determined not to be put off with words but must have all broken off from this day. Write in your own name to Mrs Cassidy and say you give up the house now - God help you."
A silver and mother of pearl rattle, Crisford & Norris Ltd, Birmingham 1909, with teddy bear mount, together with a silver cigarette case, a silver vesta case, a further silver rattle (lacking teether), a tortoiseshell and gold pique work cigar case, four silver fobs, a yellow metal pierced coin and a small collection of coins, tokens and medallions
York and Lancaster Regiment, Edward VII set of twelve fish forks and twelve fish knives, London hallmark, dated 1901, mm Hunt & Roskell Ltd, forks approx 548 gms, knives 776 gms, together with two Victorian serving spoons, London hallmark dated 1841, mm Benjamin Smith and two silver mustard spoons one is London hallmark dated 1866 and the other marks are rubbed, approx 264 gms, all bear the regimental insignia (84th Regiment of foot amalgamated with the 65th in 1881 to become the York and Lancaster Regiment). Note: Major Brian Ferguson Watts (1925-2019) served with Durham Light Infantry, York and Lancaster Regiment and the 2/10 Gurkha Rifles. He was operational in Malaya, India, Nepal, Greece, Swaziland and Germany, where he met his wife. He was much admired and respected by his colleagues, becoming one of the youngest majors in the British Army at the time. After retirement from active service he worked as Station Staff Officer in Detmold Germany and later was the secretary of the Weser Vale Hunt between 1969 and 1980, he was a great horseman and enjoyed riding to hounds.
