The Mackeson Gold Cup, in silver gilt and of Neo-Classical style, engraved with a steeple chaser and inscribed the date of the race, above chased and repousse stiff leaves and pomegranates, the border with oats, barley and hops, having two cast foliage decorated loop handles, on a knopped fan fluted decorated spreading circular foot and a conforming cover with a cast acanthus finial. 14in. (35.5cm.) high. Makers Mappin and Webb. Sheffield, 1971. 53oz. (1650g.). With a mahogany plinth and fitted storage box. Together with five gilt medallions, one with yellow enamel decoration and framed with a certificate of authenticity, one framed for 20the running of the race in 1979, with three more boxed. (6).

Note. Hamburger & Co were London gunmakers at 30 Kings Street Covent Garden from 1812 -1826. . These were possibly the pistols of Captain Sir Hector Leith-Buchanan of Drummakill 17th Lancers 1833-1903
