A small, rare, George III two colour gold and silver mounted "blue john", (Derbyshire flourspar) box of plain cylindrical form, the pull off cover with a fretwork urn of flowers, set with rubies and rose cut diamonds, by an unascribed maker "F G", Sheffield 1801 (contained in original fitted case), 3.5in (1.4cm) diameter.
Dutch silver Pin Box of fan-shaped form, embossed decoration with figures, scrolling foliage, import marks for London 1906, 7cms and a rectangular Dutch silver Box, embossed with pastoral scenes and musicians and an Edwardian silver Pin Box, cushioned lid with gadrooned outlines, Chester 1902, 11cms, (3).
An interesting 19th century elm box relating to The Duke of Wellington at Waterloo, the hinged top inset with ivory plaque engraved "Wellington Tree. Waterloo. June 18th 1815", 9.5ins this box is accompanied by a letter from the National Army Museum. This explains that, on the day of 18th June, 1815 the Duke took up his battle position beneath an elm at La Haye Sainte. Although it cannot be proved, this box purports to have been made as a souvenir from "The Wellington Tree"1248. An early 19th century Windsor Castle silver lustre jug, printed with a panoramic view of the castle and verse to obverse, 4.25in.
A gold snuff box, Charles Magnin, Geneva, circa 1840 rectangular, the lid engraved with the Arco della Pace in the Foro Bonaparte, Milan, within floral scrolls, the sides finely scrolled below twisted borders, 8.8cm, 3 1/2 in; a rectangular gold box, striped engine-turned ornament, applied scroll thumbpiece, struck: K18 7.6cm, 3in; and a rectangular silver-gilt box, French early 19th century prestige marks, the exterior cast and chased overall with a plethora of flowers and leaves, 6.8cm, 2 5/8 in (3) Although designed under the auspices of Napoleon I as King of Italy, the Arco della Pace was not inaugurated until 1838.
Five silver and niello snuff boxes the first, maker's mark erased, French, mid 19th century, the rim engraved: A. Tanfani Roma, the lid with a portrait of Pope Pius IX within lilies and other flowers; another French box, decorated in similar taste with a pastoral subject within strapwork; a Russian box, Moscow, 1888 decorated with a summer troika; and two small Russian and French boxes ornamented with foliage 10-6cm, 4- 2Gin (5)
