An interesting 19th century elm box relating to The Duke of Wellington at Waterloo, the hinged top inset with ivory plaque engraved "Wellington Tree. Waterloo. June 18th 1815", 9.5ins this box is accompanied by a letter from the National Army Museum. This explains that, on the day of 18th June, 1815 the Duke took up his battle position beneath an elm at La Haye Sainte. Although it cannot be proved, this box purports to have been made as a souvenir from "The Wellington Tree"1248. An early 19th century Windsor Castle silver lustre jug, printed with a panoramic view of the castle and verse to obverse, 4.25in.
