Pair of mid-19th century French, company-grade officers epaulettes (2) of silver lace and bullion fringe crescent, with fine silver bullion fringe. One epaulette retains small flat silvered button bearing device of flaming bomb encircled with the phrase: "LIBERTE ORDRE PUBLIC". Epaulettes of "box-style" construction, with pressboard stiffeners below, reinforced with sheet metal and with wire shoulder attachment hooks attached; silk or cotton lining missing, exposing the tow wadding of the crescents. Good and presentable upper portions, but fair undersides for conditions noted. Housed in original pressboad and wood box, the lid bearing "Capitaine" in pencil, probably indicating the pair as being a pattern style for that rank.
