Fine quality and scarce William IV Cavalry Officers' silver presentation sword with ornate cast and chased silver gothic hilt with acorn decoration and guard with crowned WRIV cipher, diced ivory grip, pipe back blade with traces of blued and gilt decoration signed S.Lambert 236 Regent St. London, finely etched with trophies of arms, crowned WRIV cipher, cavalry Officer on horse and floral scrollwork with presentation inscription 'This sword with dress belt, sabretache & cartouch box are presented to Major Mules by the non-commissioned officers and privates of the East Devon Volunteer Cavalry in testimonial of their respect and esteem for him as their commanding officer; for his general urbanity & gentlemany like conduct towards them and as a tribute, justly due to him, for the zeal he has manifested, in advancing the efficiency and discipline of the corps 1834'. The silver scabbard with ornate repousse floral scroll decoration down its entire length and Mules coat of arms, two ornate cast dragon heads and cornucopia suspension rings (Hallmarked London 1833, maker WE). The blade 89cm long, the sword 107cm overall. Sold with the silver mounted presentation crossbelt pouch (cartouch box) mentioned in the presentation inscription with gilt crown badge and silver slings (H.M. London 1833) with silver presentation plaque to the interior with shortened version of the sword inscription dated 1834. Ivory exemption APHA Ref: KC6NGQVEProvenance: Sold by a descendent of Major Philip Mules ( 1785-1857) Silver hilt and scabbard in good order with no apparent dents or damage or heavy cleaning wear. The blade is worn and has sadly lost most of its blued and gilt decoration although the inscription and etched decoration is still legible . There is some pitting particualy near the point.The scabbard is missing its internal batterns so is a loose fit . Please see the extra images

(7) Maurice Jenkins (1933-2022). North Cornwall collector. Maurice was a lifetime collector and started in the 1950s. He opened a shop in Liskeard in the 1970s called Canon Hill Antiques. He visited a number of Middle Eastern countries in his lifetime including Egypt in the late 1970's when his interest in Islamic and Asian antiques began. He was a man with an eye for quality and a love of antiques, history and travel who purchased privately and at auction over the decades. Over a lifetime of purchasing privately and at auction, he created an eclectic ensemble of collections reflecting his interests. He died a few weeks before his 90th birthday and was still buying until that time.
