A 5 inch gauge model of a Great Western Railway 0-4-2 side tank locomotive No 1452, the silver soldered copper boiler with cab fittings to include live steam pressure gauge, water sight glass, steam regulator, direction control, lever operated fire-box doors and other usual fittings. The chassis having twin, cast-iron inside cylinders and Stephenson's valve gear with polished steelwork motion. The locomotive finished in GWR green and black livery with detailed rivet-work and fitted tool boxes. Fitted steps, handrails, couplings and vacuum hoses.* This is a rebuilt Winson's model and comes complete with a past club boiler shell test certificate. It also comes with the original Winson's kit assembly instructions and drawings for all 12 kits. It has not been steamed or hydraulically re-tested.
A rare and well engineered 7 1/4 inch gauge model of a S160 Austerity 2-8-0 tender locomotive 'A.B.Macleod' No 1893. This fine locomotive comes with a silver soldered copper boiler having back-head fittings including twin encased water sight glasses, regulator, clack, safety valves, lever operated fire-box doors, chain operated whistle plus whistle control for large whistle mounted under the chassis, direction control quadrant and other usual fittings. The chassis having twin outside cylinders, fluted and polished bright-work motion and a ratchet oiler system. The model is finished in blue and black livery with polished brass boiler bands, fine detailed rivet-work, sliding drivers windows, detailed locomotive plates and A B Macleod locomotive name plate. Head lamp mounted on smoke box and fitted couplings and vacuum hoses.Locomotive length 220cm. Width 35cm. Sold together with travelling cases.Boiler History: Past boiler history including the last 'Examination Certificate of a Pressure System'. Certificate Number C170613 Issued by Ashton Court ME Club Bristol. Certificate expired the 7th of September 2020. Working pressure 75 psi. Inspector Mr Peter Pearson.Locomotive Provenance.It is believed that the locomotive was built in 1948 by a Captain Saul, who was a Captain in the Merchant Navy during World War II and had been in command of one of the ships that had brought the prototype across the Atlantic from the USA. It is thought possible that the locomotive was built on board ship. Captain Saul was with the Cunard line. The locomotive was purchased by A.B.Macleod the celebrated Southern Railway and Isle of Wight Railway manager and also being the gentleman who was responsible for the salvage of LSWR 4-4-0 No 563. The locomotive is sold together with a comprehensive history on Mr A B Macleod who purchased the locomotive following an advertisement in the Model Engineer in 1964. The locomotive was then purchased by Len Willoughby of Eastleigh in a poor state of repair. Len had the locomotive running and later sold it to Ian Braithwaite of Saffron Walden in 1970.The locomotive was sold to the now late Mr Keith Barnes in 1986 and after a re-build was steamed in 1989 and has been running ever since, spending some of its years with Keith in Holland, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland, before returning with its owner to the UK.* The locomotive is sold with past boiler history and extensive documentation relating to the locomotive and its life in the model engineering world.BOILER HISTORY DISCLAIMERPlease Note: All boiler history records and references made in this catalogue are made for guidance only and the auctioneers are not able to convey any guarantees or warranties as to the safety of the boilers or their present condition. An exhibition and award winning 5 inch gauge model of a 0-4-0 locomotive No 5, of the Monte Generose Railway, built by Mr Alasdair Milne of Reading and completed in 1992. The model is from the Swiss Locomotive Works drawings dated 1889, modified to allow conventional adhesive working of the model on an upgraded track at a scale of 6.4 to 1. The model is of a series of rack and pinion locomotives built for mountain railways (including Mount Snowdon). The silver soldered copper boiler with fittings including steam pressure gauge, water sight glass, regulator, wheel controls, fire box door and side doors to cab. The locomotive finished in traditional green and black livery with polished connecting rods, oilers, detailed rivet-work, engine plates and fitted handrails. Length 83cm. Width 30cm. Overall height 47cm.Awards: This model was awarded a Silver Medal and the Bill Deane Trophy at the 62nd Model Engineer Exhibition, This model was reported on in The Model Engineer in March 1993.Boiler History: Past boiler certificate. A fine exhibition quality 3 inch scale model of a Charles Burrell & Sons agricultural traction engine, built by the late Sam Salt of Uttoxeter. The silver soldered copper boiler having fittings including steam pressure gauge, water sight-glass, regulator, firebox door, drains, lever operated direction control with quadrant and other usual fittings. Wheel operated brake to back wheel. Worm and chain steering, open crank with two forward road speeds and reverse gear via Stephenson's link to single cylinder with cylinder block bearing original builders plaque Chas. Burrell & Sons Limited, Manufacturers. Thetford. England. The cylinder block supporting Pickering type speed governor, steam whistle, ratchet oiler system driven from crank. Steam blower fitted to assist starting, spoked flywheel, ash-pan operated om drivers position. Boiler with clack valve, fairleads and winch drum to back axle. The model remains unpainted for the most part with red lined and spoked wheels having polished brass hub caps and strakes fitted to rear wheels, black painted smoke box with polished steel chimney having polished copper finish to top. This model is built to a very high standard and would grace any ones collection and is sold together with a display board base.
