1968 MG C GT Transmission: automaticMileage:Presented in the original metallic Riviera Silver Blue coachwork, this particular example occupies a famous part of MG history. Built in March 1968, it is understood that this car spent the next few weeks in the MG Abingdon Engineering Department being checked over before despatched to the Factory Press Fleet, featuring in the 7th November 1968 Autocar road test (a copy of this magazine is in the MG's history file) and various factory promotions of that year. Indeed, the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate dated July 1989 (on file) confirms the correct colour and destination after build. It has been fitted with adjustable electric power steering, partially polybushed suspension and Spax front shock absorbers. The carburettors have also been rebuilt and it benefits from a high-capacity MG Motorsport Ltd high-capacity radiator, a new water pump, rebuilt distributor, Pertronix ignition, 'Green Stuff' brake pads, a stainless-steel fuel tank and new fuel pump. The private vendor has had the car fitted with a correct period radio has also been installed along with H4 headlamps, new tailgate gas struts and (in the last 200 miles) a reconditioned automatic gearbox and torque converter. For safety, modern inertia reel seat belts have been fitted and the conversion to a single high-capacity 12-volt battery has taken place. Also included within the extensive history file are documents showing the comprehensive body and engine restoration. The fine example carries a current MoT test certificate valid until August 2024, an MGC workshop manual and a box of spares.

Lot 151

1956 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I Transmission: automaticMileage:75364The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud was the core model of the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars range from April 1955 until March 1966. It replaced the Silver Dawn and was, in turn, replaced by the Silver Shadow. The J.P. Blatchley design was a major change from the pre-war models and the highly derivative Silver Dawn. As part of a range rationalisation, the Bentley S1 is also very similar apart from, of course, its radiator grille. The chassis was a simple steel box section, welded together and very rigid. Construction retained the traditional split between chassis and body which facilitated the provision of special bodied versions, although in practice the overwhelming majority of cars were delivered with the standard steel body shell, produced by Pressed Steel, and employing lightweight aluminium-based alloy for the doors, bonnet, and boot lid. The engine was a 155hp six-cylinder unit with inlet over exhaust valves; twin SU carburettors were added in September 1957 and standard was a four-speed, automatic transmission. First registered on 28th March 1956, the handsome Silver Cloud offered here presents beautifully in its silver paintwork and Slate Blue leather interior. The factory specification includes central front and rear armrests, Smiths gauges, a three-spoke Bakelite steering wheel, folding rear tables and manual windows. The extensive burr walnut inlays, rear tables and thick grey sheepskin over mats all present very well. Supplied by Glovers of Ripon to Dr J.F.E. Johnson of Sunderland, it is noted in a letter by the second owner, Harry Cecil Brown of Leeds, his reluctance to part with the Rolls and that the car had featured in TV series Stay Lucky starring Dennis Waterman, as well as the Judith Krantz mini-series Till We Meet Again starring Hugh Grant and Courtney Cox. Reportedly treated to a comprehensive restoration and repaint during the course of 2001, prior to it being dry stored in a Carcoon for 12 years, and then recommissioned in 2013 by Nottingham based mark experts, Riste Motor Company, with work that included the replacement of the distributor cap, rotor arm, points and condensers, drive belts, rocker cover, bushes and the battery. The car has also benefitted from having an electric cooling fan installed to help the car in modern traffic conditions. Forming part of a large private collection for the past two years, the car has always been dry stored and maintained by the vendor's personal mechanic. The vendor bought the car from a close friend of his who had owned the car from around 2015 and who also has an impressive collection that is always kept dry stored. Accompanying the car is a history file including the original Kinsman tyre pump instruction leaflet, copies of original factory build sheets, receipts, correspondence confirming the car to be genuine, historic MoT test certificates dating back to 1972 and a toolkit in the boot which includes a jack. Boasting an impressive provenance, having been featured in a couple of A list television programmes, this handsome 50's luxury saloon is not to be missed and is certainly one of the better Silver Cloud's we have seen.

Lot 201

2010 Bentley Continental Supersports Transmission: automaticMileage:58000Unveiled in 2003 at the Geneva Motor Show, the Continental GT was a different animal. The Crewe-built cars numbers were impressive with the twin-turbo, VAG 6.0 litre W12 engines, developed in the Volkswagen Phaeton and stillborn W12 sports car, producing 552bhp and 479lb ft torque. This prodigious output was fed through a six-speed automatic box from the new A8 and distributed by the Quattro four-wheel drive system. 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 196mph were significant for a car of this stature. Some six years later, also in Geneva, Bentley unveiled their new 621bhp Continental Supersports which was indecently quick with 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 204 mph, making it the fastest and the most powerful production Bentley ever. With a revised 'Tiptronic' automatic gearbox employing a 'quick-shift' system, gear change times were reduced by 50%. To cope with the increased power, it was necessary to have carbon fibre reinforced silicon carbide ceramic disc brakes - the largest and most powerful brakes ever fitted to a production car.As the Supersports evolved Bentley managed to accidentally create a very limited-edition car, the two seat examples were not selling as hoped because at the time most of the Bentley ownership comprised a demographic of drivers who wanted four seats and a softer ride. Enter the Supersports 'comfort seat' option, a four-seat option that still gave performance, clearly not that of the two-seater but it gave a very clean way for Bentley to exit what appeared to be a fabulous car but not for their then customer demographic. This example was supplied by Bentley Edinburgh in 2010 and was specified in Silver Tempest metallic with a Beluga hide and black Alcantara interior with Portland stitching. In typical Bentley fashion, the interior has leather on almost every surface, with carbon fibre trim and Alcantara inserts on the seats and door cards. The headlining is made up mostly of Alcantara too, with the control panel being covered in Beluga hide. The cabin of any Bentley Continental really is one of the best places to spend time in a car and the cabin of a Supersports makes the experience even better. The car is supplied with a comprehensive service history consisting of four visits to Bentley main agents and four visits to GC Motors, an independent prestige car dealer. The car has been serviced prior to the sale by Bentley Birmingham and has just had the front brake calipers stripped down and rebuilt by a brake specialist. The cherished registration 'W12 AWB' is included in the sale and the car comes with an MoT test certificate valid until January 2024 and various invoices for works carried out over the years.

1957 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I Transmission: automaticMileage:4820The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud was the core model of the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars range from April 1955 until March 1966. It replaced the Silver Dawn and was, in turn, replaced by the Silver Shadow. The J. P. Blatchley design was a major change from the pre-war models and the highly derivative Silver Dawn. As part of a range rationalisation, the Bentley S1 is also very similar apart from, of course, its radiator grille. The chassis was a simple steel box section, welded together and very rigid. Construction retained the traditional split between chassis and body which facilitated the provision of special bodied versions, although in practice the overwhelming majority of cars were delivered with the standard steel body shell, produced by Pressed Steel, and employing lightweight aluminium based alloy for the doors, bonnet, and boot lid. The engine was a 155hp six-cylinder unit with inlet over exhaust valves; twin SU carburettors were added in September 1957 and standard was a four-speed, automatic transmission. This example of the Silver Cloud was first registered on 25th January 1957 and is presented in Tudor Grey over Shell Silver with contrasting red leather trim. Recent works have included a new master cylinder, the brakes were stripped, rebuilt and brake servos were replaced. There are invoices in the history file from Vale Classic Cars and Nigel Sandell Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists showing all the parts and work that was carried out, totalling to just over £3,000. This serene looking Bentley has the benefit of power assisted steering which was ordered from new (as shown on the copy of original build sheet) and the details on the original build sheet also confirm this is a matching numbers car. The paintwork is generally quite good with the interior leather showing patina and the woodwork is also generally good but has been replaced at some point in the past. Please note that the registration is non transferable.
