Collection of Chinese and other Far Eastern silver and white metal, including spot hammered box, with raised and enamelled floral decoration, condiments, miniature pagoda, lock, rattle, octagonal dish and other items, mostly with character marks to bases. All at approximately 10ozs. (Qty)General overall condition of majority of items is good, some surface scratching and wear, specifically, the pagoda and melon condiment are bent in places, the spot hammered box hinge is broken, the lock does not function and the rattle is split at one end.
Good quality late 19th century French Louis XVI revival timepiece in lapis lazuli and silver plated case in the form of winged Atlas and cherub on dolphins back supporting a globe raised on paw feet with cylinder movement with screw back 23cm high and original fitted red leather box with gilt tooled Ducal coronet and 'L.P.O.' initials, with keySound running condition ( not tested for timekeeping), rather dirty overall but very good quality. Superb matching set of a gold lacquer ryoshibako and suzuribako, Meiji Period. The ryoshibako of rounded rectangular form, bearing a kinji ground with mura-nashiji, lacquered in gold takamakie with a view of rapids on the Tatsuta river, the sides with conforming designs, the interior decorated with a noble lady and her attendant looking out from the verandah of a tea house beneath the full moon inlaid in silvered metal; the suzuribako of similar form, with a complimentary Spring scene of Tatsugawa; the interior lacquered with thatched houses beside a narrow river; fitted with a suzuri, a silvered metal mizuire in the form of two insect-eaten maple leaves, two brushes, a knife, spike and ink-cake holder of gold lacquer with silver mounts; with two wood storage boxes. The ryoshibako 39cm x 33cm x 12.7cm, the suzuribako 24.1cm x 22.2cm x 5.4cm. Provenance: Bonhams, New Bond Street, London, Fine Japanese Art sale. 11 November 2010The lacquer appears in excellent condition with just some very minor wear to the base. The wooden box shows some wear, a blade on one of the writing implements may have come loose but is included, and one of the blades shows some signs of rust.
