An early Victorian silver and enamel rectangular snuff box, by Robert Garrard II, with engraved scroll decoration, the lid with inset oval panel depicting a castle in landscape scene, London 1838, 85mm, gross 5.5 oz.CONDITION: Faint hairline crach to the enamel. Damage to the enamel towards the left cornet(cracks & small chips). Some scratched elsewhere also. Minor scuffs to the silver in the centre of the underside of the base.

Extremely rare and in excellent quality silver snuff box made by Norbert Heylbrouck sr. Ghent and engraver silversmith Joannes van Erven with maker's mark: lion going to the left. Snuff box dated 1732-1749. Length 10 cm width 7.5 cm height 1.7 cm. Mythological images from Métamorphose dOvide and Rondeux 1676 by Isaac de Bensérade:"Apollo tending the sheep and cows of Admetus"; and "Pandora's Box"This silver snuff box is depicted and described in detail in Ghendtsche Tydingen - Magazine of the Local History and History Circle Ghent - January / February 2016More than coincidentally the significance of the mythological depictions used seems to be related to the two dramatic highlights in Heylbrouck's life. An early 19th century genuine antique Russian icon representing Christ exquisitely painted on what appears to be a fine animal skin attached to wooden base, set in silver riza in original patinated condition, with the maker's mark. Dimensions: 14.5x17.7cm. Housed in a black box 22.3x25.7x6cm, inside a gold leaf gilded inner frame, with hinged front. Some losses to silver halo and slight denting to Riza otherwise generally good.
