The presentations read ‘The Gift of William Tatton Esq. of Tatton & Withinshaw to Essex Cholmondeley of Vale Royal’ and ‘The Gift of James Murray Allison Esq. of Rodmell, Sussex to Sir William Ewart Berry Bart. of Barrow Hill, Berks. 1927’. . The demi-griffin crest of CHOLMONDELEY, kin of the Marquesses of Cholmondeley, and the seated griffin crest above a baronet’s badge of Sir William E. Berry, later Viscount Camrose, whose 1915 acqusition of the Sunday Times was an early step in a powerful career in the newspaper industry.
