The travel / dressing table vanity box having brass bound borders to the exterior with the hinged lid opening to reveal an appointed interior. The interior being royal blue leather and velvet lined with a series of cut clear glass scent bottles, vanity bottles and trinket box with all having heavy hallmarked silver tops. The lid interior having a fold-out section with all removables below being within fitted lift out sections. Bramah brass locks and decorative brass hinges to the top section over a single jewellery drawer below retaining the original leather cover and opening via a push button to the interior top. Silver content hallmarked for London date letter M 1967, makers mark for Thomas Whitehouse. Measures approx 21cm x 32cm x 23.5cm.

Three tsuba (sword guards)Edo period (1615-1868) to Showa era (1926–1989), 19th/20th centuryThe first brightly patinated copper mokko with a hammered-up rim, boldly chased and inlaid in gold and silver with a shishi (Chinese mythological lion dog) on each side, with peonies on the obverse, the hitsuana plugged with nekogaki ('cat scratch') gilt metal, signed Morihira with a kao (see footnote); the second copper, oval, each side chased and inlaid in shakudo and silver with a huge Mount Fuji-shaped wave with birds in flight, unsigned; the third iron with a raised rim, chased with rough waves and an anchor and inlaid with gold and silver cherry blossoms, the ryohitsu plugged with shakudo, unsigned; each with a wood storage box. The smallest: 7.6cm (3in); the largest: 8.6cm (3 3/8in). A gold-lacquer and roiro (black-lacquer) suzuribako (box for writing utensils)Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th centuryThe rounded rectangular suzuribako with a kabusebuta (overhanging lid) decorated in gold and slight silver takamaki-e, gold togidashi maki-e and kirikane with cranes in flight over large pine trees and plum branches, two minogame (bushy-tailed turtles) crawling toward a meandering stream and Mount Fuji looming in the distance, the sides scattered with plum blossoms, the inside of the lid embellished in rich nashiji decorated with a pair of minogame crawling toward young pine shrubs, the inside of the box executed in nashiji with a removable frame fitted with a suzuri (ink-grinding stone), two unrelated ink-sticks and an oval silvered-metal suiteki (water dropper) carved with a crane in flight among pine; unsigned. 3.5cm x 22.7cm x 18.2cm (1¼in x 8 5/8in x 7 1/8in).
