Lot 2116

An Edwardian Diamond Necklace/Tiara, circa 1900, the front graduated with seven floral scrolled drops set throughout with old cut diamonds, interspaced by knife edge bars set with old cut diamonds, to a similarly formed back chain centred with a cluster, in white claw and collet settings, total estimated diamond weight 5.30 carat approximately, length 38cm, in a fitted case by Nigel Milne see illustration. .  The necklace is in fair condition there are signs of repair. There is one scroll of the centre cluster detached and the smallest diamond is lacking. The size may have been altered slightly looking at the spacer bars and some joints are slightly split. The central drop is 2.8cm. It was sold by Nigel Milne 18 January 1995 with the original catalogue entry for £10,250. Possibly the frame was re-made at this time. Box is not original but in a Nigel Milne box. It has fittings to the reverse for a tiara and the tiara frame is present. It fastens with either of the 'chain ' section hooking on to either end of the 'drop' section. It bears no hallmark nor stamp but in our opinion would test as silver and gold. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; colour I/J/K, clarity SI1/SI2/I1/I2/I3. Gross weight 22.8 grams. CR made 23.02.21.

A Set of Twelve George IV Silver Fruit-Knives, Maker's Mark WE, Possibly for William Eaton, London, The Handles 1829, The Blades 1826 (2) and 1827 (10), Retailed by T. Jones, Goldsmith, 18 Ludgate Street, the handles of each facetted tapering, with plain silver blades, filled, in fitted red-leather covered case, the case 24.5cm wide. There is some wear to the marks, particularly on one handle. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The box is scuffed and worn.

Lot 2276

A French Empire Silver-Gilt Musical-Box, by L. Baudin, Paris, 1809-1819, oblong, the hinged cover and base with an engine turned ground within foliage and scroll borders, the cover opens to reveal a plain interior, the front with a opening, cover lacking, the back with slide mechanism, the base with winder, key lacking, 8.8cm wide, gross weight 7oz 17dwt Baudin seems to have specialised in boxes of this sort with a number of examples with similar decoration extant. These include a nearly identical example, the inside engraved with an inscription (sold Bonhams, 21 November 2018, lot 31) and one with similar borders, the centre set with a micromosaic panel (sold Christie's, 8 December 2011, lot 111). . Marked on the bezel with second standard cockerel mark and with medium guarantee mark. Various struck inside and on bezel with maker's mark. The standard and guarantee mark are both clear while the maker's mark is poorly struck in some places and with wear in other places. There is some minor surface scratching and wear to the box, consistent with age and use. The key is lacking. The mechanism is not currently functioning when wound. There is a cover missing over the opening in the front of the box.

A Victorian Silver Scent-Bottle cum Vinaigrette and Pill-Box, by Sampson Mordan and Co, London, 1871, modelled as a barrel, the top with screw-cap for the scent bottle, each end with hinged cover, one opens to reveal the vinaigrette with pierced grille, the other reveals the pill-box, with suspension chain, 5cm wide, 1oz 14dwt, 53gr. Fully marked on bezel. Further part marked on each cover and inside grille. Stamped 'S Mordan & Co London' inside one cover. There is some surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use.

A Victorian Silver and Enamel Pill-Box, Maker's Mark Apparently SW, Probably for Samuel Whitford, London, 1883, oblong, the hinged cover with an enamel plaque painted with a view of Durham cathedral with the River Wear in the foreground, 4cm wide, gross weight 1oz 7dwt, 41gr. Fully marked near rim. The cover apparently unmarked. The maker's mark and duty mark are each somewhat indistinct. There is some surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use.

A Victorian Silver Snuff-Box, by Nathaniel Mills, Birmingham, 1837, oblong, the hinged cover and base each engraved with a tartan pattern, the sides engine turned, engraved with initials, the interior gilded, 5.5cm wide, 1oz, 30gr. Part marked inside base and cover. The marks are generally clear. There is overall surface scratching and wear consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a minor softening to the engraving.

A Victorian Silver Snuff Box by Nathaniel Mills, Birmingham, 1840, oblong, the base and hinged cover each engraved with foliage scrolls, the interior gilt, 7.5cm wide, 1oz 1dwt, 33gr. Part marked inside base and cover. The marks are generally clear. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a softening to the engraving and the gilding.

Lot 2314

A Pair of Glass Salt-Cellars and a Pair of Silver-Plated Salt-Spoons, Retailed by Cartier, the salts quatrefoil shaped the spoons with Fiddle pattern terminal, in fitted red leather covered box, the case 19cm wide (4) . The salt-cellars each engraved 'Cartier France' underneath. The spoons stamped 'Cartier'. In generally good condition. There is some tarnish to the spoons and some scuffing to the case. The hinge is broken and so the top and the base of the box are held together with tape.

Marked on barrel with silver marks. There is some scratching overall and tarnish to the barrel. Lacking box and paperwork.

Each fully marked on side. There is some minor wear overall and some bruises. One case is labelled inside 'From Fortnum & Mason's Gift Department', The other box a differing shape and possibly later.

Lot 2373

An Edward VII Silver Cigar-Box, by The Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Co. Ltd., London, 1902, oblong, the slightly domed hinged cover engraved with an inscription to Sir Alfred L Jones, K.C.M.G, the interior wood lined, 31cm wide by 19cm deep . Fully marked on side of base. The cover further part marked on side. There is some minor wear to the marks. The maker's mark is overstricking another. The base further stamped 'Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd 112 Regent St W.' The inscription reads 'Sir Alfred L Jones KCMG From his Friends in Bathurst'. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There are some minor bruises and minor areas of pitting. The interior is wood lined and has had some blue velvet later glued inside. The blue velvet is now removed in places leaving adhesive and material residue behind. The total gross weight including wood lining is 2,750gr.

A George V Silver and Tortoiseshell Ring-Box, by Levi and Salaman, Birmingham, 1915, circular and on three scroll feet, the hinged cover set with a tortoiseshell plaque, applied with silver scroll motifs, velvet lined, 5.5cm diameter. Fully marked under base. The cover with lion passant and date letter. The marks are generally clear. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There are some minor bruises. The lining inside is somewhat worn. Total gross weight 33gr.

Lot 2404

An Edward VII Silver Glove-Box, by William Comyns, London, 1905, oblong, the sides and hinged cover stamped with birds and grotesque masks among foliage and on a matted ground, the interior silk lined, filled, 27cm wide. Fully marked on side and cover. There is some wear to the marks, though each is still legible. There is some surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There is some wear to the lining. The vacant cartouche has perhaps been erased. The filling inside has come partly loose and rattles slightly.

Each fully marked on side and further part marked on base. The marks are generally clear. There is some surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There is some minor pitting to the surface overall.

An Elizabeth II Parcel-Gilt Silver Goblet, by Desmond Clen-Murphy for Aurum, London, 1976, Number 224 From a Limited Edition of 600, the bowl tapering and of trefoil section, the foot cast as wheat sheafs, engraved underneath with an inscription commemorating the Ninth Centenary of the Foundation of Chichester Cathedral, in fitted case, 16.5cm high, the box 22.5cm wide, 10oz 11dwt, 327gr. Fully marked underneath. The inscription reads 'Number 224 of a Limited Edition of 600 Made by Order of the Dean and Chapter to Commemorate the Ninth Centenary of the Foundation of Chichester Cathedral in 1075'. The marks and inscription are clear. There are some surface scratches and wear overall, consistent with age and use. The case has some scuffing and marks.
