A crocodile skin travel case and related ephemera with Russian Imperial provenance: the case by John Bagshaw & Sons, Liverpool, inscribed with crowned initials E.G., the interior with divided compartments, 29 x 26cm; together with a plaster cast of the Russian Imperial crown by Collingwood; a shaped rectangular silver box, Birmingham 1907, maker H.Matthews; and a silver christening mug inscribed 'To Nicolai from his godfather Prince Dimitri of Russia 7.2.69', Birmingham 1968, maker S.J.R. [4]. * Provenance Gwyneth Tighe, Princess Elizabeth Galitzine [b.1933] and thence by family descent. *Biography Gwyneth Tighe of Ballina Park, County Wicklow was a T.V. game show hostess in the 1960s. On marrying her third husband, Prince Yuri Galitzine, she styled herself Princess Elizabeth Galitzine. They had a son, Nikolai [see christening cup inscribed 'To Nikolai from his godfather Prince Dimitri of Russia']. During the war, Prince Yuri served as an intelligence officer [Captain] and discovered and reported on the concentration camp at Natzweiller in Alsace Lorraine. After the war, he became a public relations consultant in London [Galitzine,Chant, Russell]. Collingwood of London was one of his Public Relations accounts, hence the plaster cast of the Russian Imperial crown.
A pair of late 18th century brass candlesticks: with urn-shaped sconces on tapering stems and circular bases, 24cm high, a silver plated flower holder in the form of a two handled basket, 17cm wide, a rectangular box, the interior painted with a floral spray, 12cm wide and an Art Deco period clear glass scent bottle and stopper, 12.5cm high.
A William IV silver cigarette box, of engine turned decoration, with foliate scroll lift lid, bearing the initials JL, with internal inscription from Lord and Lady Polwartlz, and official inscription to the Reverend James Duncan from Henry and Georgina Scott and a mark of their appreciation, regard and esteem, 15th August 1837, Birmingham 1833, 3oz.
Clackmannanshire Volunteers Nepoleonic War Period Pair of Flintlock Box Lock Presentation Pocket Pistols2 inch, 54 bore, smoothbore, turn off barrels. Flat side body with engraved stand of arms with central blank cartouche. Central ring neck flint cock with line edge engraving. Sliding safety bar. Steel frizzen with operating spring. Flip down trigger. Flat side, bag shape grips with silver wire inlaid scrolls. Silver hallmarked butt plates, Birmingham 1801-2 and maker "C.F.". Oval escutcheon engraved "The 1st Company Of Clackmannanshire Volunteers. Presented To Their Commanding Officer Wm Geddes Esq. In Testimony Of Their Esteem 1802". Now contained in a period mahogany case with relined fittings. Containing steel pincer mould. Wooden handled turn screw with pricker. Copper and brass priming powder flask. Captain William Geddes was appointed a Lieutenant in the 90th Foot on the 5th November 1795. Two years later he was a Lieutenant in the Clackmanan Volunteer Infantry his date of seniority given as the 27th June 1797. On the 4th October 1802 he was appointed Captain and it is possible the pistols were presented on his promotion. He is shown still serving in 1804 now with the Forfar and Kincardine Militia. Women in World War I Photograph album, c.1911-20 containing c.350 snapshot-style gelatin silver print photographs (8 x 6cm to 10.5 x 6.5cm), depicting a voyage to India in 1911-12 (Rajputana, Jabalpore, Simla), family recreation in England, and activities of Army Service Corps Mechanical Transport Company 882 and attached servicewomen in London, France and Belgium (with numerous images of service cars including Rolls Royces, and two larger photographs captioned 'Canadian War Cabinet Cars, Peace Conference, Whitehall Gardens, Dec 1918 Jan 1919'), 1917-20, manuscript captions throughout. Together with 7 further albums, c.1880-1910, comprising: 4 albums with in total c.250 Scottish or English views, albumen prints, many by George Washington Wilson or John Valentine, e.g. Highlands and Islands (Staffa, Fingal's Cave, Glencoe, Skye, Tobermory, castles), Edinburgh (20 of these large-format and contained in single red morocco album), and similar; 2 family albums containing in total c.220 personal and studio photographs, c.1890, one including domestic views and interiors (e.g. 'Bachelors and Spinsters Ball, Worcester, March 31st 1891'), family scenes at Wolverton Hall, Worcestershire, views including Malta and Aden, bookplate of Agatha Royds Greene (dated 1895); and a crushed blue morocco album of domestic interiors apparently in Edinburgh, 1912 (platinum prints). Also c.250 photographic cartes-de-visite, c.1860-70, including actresses ('Miss Constance Gilchrist in "Blue Beard"'; Eweretta Lawrence; Madame Modjeska; Emily Soldene; Violet Cameron; Alice Atherton), soldiers, aristocrats and royalty (Duke of Buccleuch, Duke and Duchess of Connaught, Duke and Duchess of Albany, Alexandra Princess of Wales), W. E. Gladstone etc.; 16 similar cabinet cards; 4 photographic negatives (2 of 'Maesminnon [Maes Mynan] Hall', Wales, 2 of a house named 'La Sarsonnerie' in printed caption verso, in folder annotated '4 paper negatives, late 1840s early 50s') and a photographic portrait of George Bernard Shaw, apparently signed by Shaw on verso (1 box)
