This mark was entered in April 1790.

A Scottish silver rectangular cigar or cigarette box, maker's mark WB (not traced), Edinburgh 1894, the cover engraved Cigars & Cigarettes above a crest, within a Greek Key border, on ball feet (one detached, one missing), 18cm (7in) long; an Iraqi silver coloured and niello cigarette box; another covered in facsimile signatures, both presentation inscribed inside the cover, both wood lined (3) The latter two presented to Sir Alexander John Dickson Stirling, ambassador to Iraq 1977-80, on his leaving Baghdad. On 19th June 1980 he survived an assassination attempt: three terrorists burst into the embassy at Baghdad and fired three shots at him, one of which passed across his chest and through the lapel of his jacket. After Iraq, Stirling was ambassador to Tunisia 1981-84 and to Sudan 1984-86.
A silver rectangular inkstand by John Grinsell & Sons, Birmingham 1919, with an oval nib box flanked by silver lidded cut glass drum wells, the base with two pen rests, a threaded rim and on ball-and-claw feet, engraved with a crest, a motto Dum Spiro Spero and initials D.C.W.W., 29cm (11 1/2in) long, 881g (28.3 oz) weighable The crest of WALSH originally of The Walsh Mountains, co. Kilkenny. This motto was in use in Ireland circa 1816. The family was founded in Ireland by Philip the Welshman, a companion of Robert FitzStephen in the invasion of 1170.
