A watch, a walking stick with silver top presented to him from his regiment. Gold coloured cigarette box sent to the troops by Princess Mary with cigarettes still inside. From there a story unfolds that my grandfather was injured in the back, head and right hand (one letter obviously written by his left hand informing his wife) during the Great War. He never really recovered and eventually passed away in 1947; there are many letters to and from the war office as my grandmother fought to get a disability pension for him and for her. All these were refused and she had very little money to live on.Sinking of the Lisbon Maru WW2 - my uncle (Montague Glister, son of the grandmother above and going on as she coped with the upset and grief of her husband) was in a POW camp in Hong Kong. The prisoners were put on a POW ship by the Japanese to sail Japan. They were imprisoned in the hull of the ship. The ship was then bombed by the Americans and the Japanese would not free the prisoners. 1,000 men lost their lives. We have many letters to family from my uncle and family letters returned.
