WW2 613 (City of Manchester) Squadron Presentation. Silver Cigarette BoxThis box was presented to then Pilot Officer Arthur Malcolm Gregg who was killed in the defence of Ceylon 1942. The silver cigarette box is engraved with the Squadron crest and text “Presented to P./O. A. M. Gregg by the Officers of 613 Squadron on the Occasion of His Marriage, 27th September 194”. Flying Officer Arthur Malcolm Gregg was originally commissioned into the Royal Engineers in 1937, in 1940 he transferred to the RAF, being appointed a Pilot Officer. Qualifying as a Pilot he was posted to 272 Squadron serving in Ceylon he was ordered to fly his Fairey Fulmer to locate the Japanese fleet. His aircraft suffered engine trouble and his was forced to crash into the dense jungle just inland of Foul Point, he did not survive the crash.
