* Keppel (Sir Henry, 1809-1904). A fine silver cigar box presented by the later King Edward VII and George V to Admiral of the Fleet Sir Henry Keppel, G.C.B., O.M. Royal Navy, the silver box with rubbed hallmarks but Birmingham 1898, lid with a gilt roundel of Edward VII facing left (designed by Emil Fuchs), the front panel engraved with family crest, gilded interior, the inner lid engraved 'To Admiral of the Fleet. The Hon Sir Henry Keppel, G.C.B. on the occasion of his 91st birthday, from Albert Edward and George, Ascot June 14th 1900.', 7.5cm high x 17cm wide x 9cm deep, 17.7oz, with key (Qty: 1)NOTESAdmiral of the Fleet Sir Henry Keppel, G.C.B., O.M., was a Royal Navy officer. His first command was off the coast of Spain which was then in the midst of the First Carlist War. He served as commanding officer of the corvette HMS Dido on the East Indies and China Station and was deployed in operations during the First Opium War and operations against Borneo pirates. He later served as commander of the naval brigade besieging Sebastopol during the Crimean War. He took part in the capture of Canton during the Second China War. Keppel went on to be Commander-in-Chief at Cape of Good Hope and West Coast of Africa station, then Commander-in-Cheif, South East Coast of America station also China station and finally in Plymouth.
