A Fine Victorian lacquered brass box sextant Cary, London, circa 1864 The circular top plate with screw for rack and pinion index mirror adjustment against a fine inset silver vernier scale with magnification arm, the circumference with sliding pinhole shutter revealing threaded telescope mounting aperture and levers for raising/lowering the coloured glass filters, the underside with further shuttered aperture to allow filter arms to move clear when not in use, the instrument enclosed by a threaded canister-shaped cover engraved with surveyor`s table to circumference and with presentation inscription Royal Military College, Presented to Gentleman Cadet William A. Law for Attention to and Progress in Military Surveying, June 1864 to top surface, complete with single-draw telescope attachment fitted with revolving filter selection to eyepiece, in original blue velvet lined mahogany presentation box, the instrument 7.2cm (3ins) diameter, the box 12cm (4.75ins) wide. The firm of William Cary is recorded in Clifton, Gloria Directory of British Scientific Instrument Makers 1550-1851 as working from various addresses in the Strand, London 1789-1891. Gentleman Cadet William Arthur Law`s commission is recorded in The London Gazette (available online) `21st Foot, Gentleman Cadet William Arthur Law, from The Royal Military College, to be Ensign without purchase, vice Pollard, promoted, Dated 28th June 1864`, no further records of his service appear in the usual sources.
A patinated brass sextant Heath and Company Limited, London, late 19th century The heart-pierced frame with pivoted arm mounted with mirror opposing hinged magnification lens over aperture for reading the silver inset brass vernier scale signed Heath & Co. Ltd., Crayford. London, with two sets of hinged filters, brass sighting tube and wooden grip to rear of frame, the mahogany box with paper test certificate by W.F. Stanley & Co. Limited dated May 16th 1916 applied behind perspex-glazed cover to interior of lid and with carrying handle to front, 28cm (11ins) wide. The firm of Heath and Company was founded in 1845 by George Heath in Erith, Kent. He specialised in supplying instruments to the maritime trade as was succeeded by his sons Frederick Thomas and George William on his death in 1872. By 1900 the firm had expanded to become one of the most prolific manufacturers of nautical and surveying instruments and had adopted the `Hezzanith` trade name; in 1926 the business was amalgamated with W.F. Stanley of London.
PAIR OF LATE VICTORIAN SILVER CIRCULAR BUTTER DISHES with glass liners, Birmingham 1896, 9cm diameter; together with a silver bangle, a silver spoon and silver two butter knives, silver `Dunfermline College of Hygiene and Physical Education` pin and one other, silver snuff box, and two salts, approximately 330g in total (12) Both butter dish liners are chipped, the silver bangle with a minor dent, one pin with the silver bent, the rim of the snuff box with some dents and slight dents to body, the napkin ring with surface damage and minor knocks.
LATE VICTORIAN SILVER STAMP BOX with two division gilt interior, Birmingham 1887, 6cm long; together with seven Georgian silver teaspoons, a Dutch 800 standard silver cake slice and an octagonal silver sugar caster, Birmingham 1929, 15.5cm high, approximately 246g in total (10) The bowl of one of the Georgian spoons is slightly bent at the tip. Dent to the base rim of the stamp box. Each with all over surface marks.

The silver with light surface wear. The interior of the fitted box stained in parts.
ART DECO EDWARDIAN SILVER VANITY SET, EDWARDIAN SILVER PART VANITY SET AND A SILVER BRUSH AND HAND MIRROR the silver vanity set comprising a hand held mirror, a brush, and two clothes brushes, all with engine turned design, Birmingham 1923, the mirror approximately 27cm long, in a fitted case; the silver vanity set comprising a hand held mirror, a brush and two clothes brushes, all decorated with a reeded and floral motif border, Birmingham 1906, the mirror 28.5cm long, in a fitted case; the mirror and brush, Sheffield 1912, the mirror 27cm long The mirror for the part silver vanity set has some knocks and the rim around the glass is bashed in places so the glass is now separate, hallmarks slightly rubbed, the other items in the set with slight knocks and all over surface wear. The fitted case with some internal loss to the lining and missing one of its clasps on the box. The mirror and the brush and one of the clothes brushes with knocks, and all over surface wear. The fitted case with fraying to lining. The brush and mirror with small dents throughout and all over light surface wear.
