[Wellington interest] A late George III silver commemorative snuff box by William Pugh, Birmingham 1812, curved rectangular, the cover engraved with an olive branch, Britannia and a martial trophy beneath a banner WELLINGTON, on a matted ground between guilloche bands, the base with foliate trellis, the interior gilt, 7.5cm (3in) long Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, KG, GCB, GCH, PC, FRS (1769-1852) was elevated to the peerage in 1809 as Viscount Wellington of Talavera and of Wellington, in the County of Somerset, with the subsidiary title of Baron Douro of Wellesley. Following the Battle of Salamanca, he was created Earl of Wellington, in the county of Somerset on 22nd February 1812 and then Marquess of Wellington on 18th August 1812.

[Royalty interest] A late Victorian silver two division cigar and cigarette box by Wright & Davies, London 1895, with a central lighter and cigar cutters and two scroll handles, cedar lined, inscribed From Queen Victoria, Balmoral Castle, May 25th 1898, on bun feet, 32.5cm (12 3/4in) wide, loaded; with a presentation note inside to a Mr Borwick, signed and dated 30th May 1898 by Arthur Bigge; and a later cigar cutter, stamped Sterling only, 13.5cm (5 1/4in) long Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur John Bigge, 1st Baron Stamfordham, GCB, GCIE, GCVO, KCSI, KCMG, ISO, PC (1849-1931) was an army officer and courtier. He was Private Secretary to Queen Victoria during the last few years of her reign and to George V during most of his reign. The present cataloguer has had no joy in finding out who Mr Borwick was.
