A William IV silver snuff box, Taylor & Perry, Birmingham, date letter indistinct, the cover with stag hunting scene, 7cm wide Condition Report: Bruising to bottom edge and evidence of gilding to bottom edges and corners on underside. Interior gillded, marks a little worn. Slight bruising and small dents to top cover edges. Wear to design on cover.
An Australian 18ct gold panel bracelet, Christian Ludwig Qwist, Sydney circa 1863-65, the central panel with oxidised silver figure of an Aborigine, the panels to either side with kangaroo and emu, all to a surround of finely engraved scrollwork, the clasp marked 'CLQ, 18', the reverse engraved AMDq, 16.5cm long, approximately 34.4gm, in a fitted case Provenance: By direct descent from Hugh Hamilton (1822-1900) a younger son of the Hamiltons of Sundrum in Ayrshire. He went to Australia as an early pioneer settler at the age of 19 in 1841, establishing the Tomanbil and Boyd stations on the Lachlan River in New South Wales. He lost most of his cattle in a severe drought in 1849. He took on the post of assistant gold commissioner at Ophir near Bathurst during the gold rush but eventually returned successfully to farming. The engraved initials AMD are believed to refer to Hugh Hamilton`s first cousin Anna Maria Dundas, daughter of James Dundas of Dundas and his wife Lady Mary Duncan, daughter of Viscount Camperdown the celebrated Admiral. Note: The small figures of Aborigine, kangaroo and emu may have been supplied by Julius Hogarth. Literature: 'Brilliant' edited by Eva Czernis-Ryl, 2011 Condition Report: Condition overall good. Backing to all three reliefs tarnished and scratched. Foliage reliefwork appears complete but slightly tarnished throughout with similar blemishes to filigree work. Reverse rather dull and scratched. Central and left button attachments showing signs of solder. Bracelet is very slightly misshapen, ie. not a perfect oval. There is a small amount of lubricant residue to the clasp hinge (seems to come off when gently rubbed). In an unmarked hoof-shaped leather box.
