BOX WITH SILVER- AND GOLD-THREAD EMBROIDERYRenaissance, Italy, probably Florence, 16th/17th century.Wood, carved with pearl and scale frieze, and gilt. Rectangular body with hinged cover, on paw feet. Three sides and the cover, applied with silver- and gold-thread embroidery on a green velvet ground. The back, pasted with florally patterned paper (probably later). Fitted interior with several compartments, painted green later. 1 key.W 47 cm, D 37 cm, H 27 cm.Various losses to the wood and to the embroidery.
