GLASGOW COMEDY INTEREST: LARGE COLLECTION OF LEX MCLEAN MEMORABILIA including several BBC scripts, signed head shots, box of personal photographs, framed photographs of play casts, original recipts and invoices for gigs, scrap books of newspaper cuttings, handwritten account book, large ink stamp of 'Try McLean's Pool, Money for Nothing' cartoon, a silver plated tray awarded for 'R.F. C.S.A 23rd Rally, Guest Speaker, Lex McLean, March 5th 1972' and a Comedy award statuette, his white performing jacket and black bowler hat, the silver plated tray 39cm long Note: Lex McLean (born Alexander McLean Cameron, 1908-23 March 1975) was a Scottish comedian, described as "almost certainly the last of Scotland's great music hall comedians". He played to packed houses all over his country from the late 1950s to the early 1970s, when he had to semi-retire on the grounds of ill health. Known as "Sexy Lex" for his risque but never obscene humour, his act was even passed by the Lord Chamberlain. At the peak of his popularity in the 1960s he appeared in the BBC Scotland comedy series Lex and Lex Again. A huge fan of Rangers, he even had Ibrox legend George Young guest on his television show.

An 18th Century Irish hallmarked silver circular box with pull off cover centred by a muzzled bear crest, the underside with engraved initials and dated 1772, the whole with reeded rim and foot, Dublin, marks rubbed, Bartholomew or Benjamin Stokes, makers mark stamped to lid and double struck to base.
