A rare WWI First World War interest silver plate tobacco / snuff box, with enamel badge to top ' In Honour Of Bradford Pals - 16 Ser. Bn. W.Y. Regiment ' (16th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment). Oval shaped, with a hinged lid. Measures approx; 9cm long. On 1st July 1916 the Bradford Pals (16/18 West Yorkshire Regiment) were at the heart of the assault on the Somme. Drawn from the mill city of Bradford they were tasked with taking objectives in and around the fortified village of Serre. The West Yorkshire Regiment suffered the highest casualty rates of any sent into battle on the first day of the Somme.
A hallmarked 19th Century antique ( 1881 ) British made silver cigarette box / case belonging to a F.M Synge of the 14th Highlanders. The case of rectangular form is finely engraved to the base and lid with birds and foliage designs. Makers mark GU George Unite of Caroline Street Birmingham, 1881. Inscribed to the inside lid ' F.M. Synge 14th Highlanders Naval and Military Club '. Measures approx 9x6cm
A WWI First World War medal group awarded to one Major Thomas Dalzell Armstrong of the West Yorkshire Regiment (11th West Yorks). Mentioned in Dispatches three times. Comprising: 1914-15 Star (2. LIEUT T. D. ARMSTRONG W. YORK. R), War Medal (MAJOR T. D. ARMSTRONG), and Victor Medal (LIEUT T.D.ARMSTRONG). Each with its original ribbon (unused in box of issue), and the ribbon bar, with oak leaf. Also includes the accompanying set of miniatures, an unused Medal Ribbons Bar Brooch on card, and Armstrong's WWII Second World War hallmarked silver ARP Air Raid Precautions badge, boxed. Along with some later-printed history, including copies of his mentions in the London Gazette.
