An 1870's to 1880's Japanese Ivory Fan, the monture embellished with gold lacquer, featuring birds, cranes and others, and foliage, the guards also inlaid with shibayama, tiny pink blossoms and some tinges of green. The double paper leaf is embroidered in coloured silks with flowers and birds and the fan is finished with an embossed silver metal loop, and a silk tassel bearing an ojime painted in gold. Contained in a fan box of black and gold lacquer. Guard length 13 inches or 33cm Purchased from Philips London on 1st September 1983 for £180.00Very good, clean, no loss to the shibayama inlay.

An Early 20th Century Sequin Fan, the pale green silk leaf mounted on bone, the sequins in gold and silver and of differing shapes and sizes. Together with A Black Wooden Fan, the monture clouté, embellished with silver sequins embroidered onto black silk gauze, the motifs representing Iris, dragonflies and butterflies, A Further Bone Fan, mounted with cream gauze and embellished with silver sequins. Guard lengths 7.5 inches or 19cm; 10 inches or 25cm; and 8.25 inches or 21cm; and A Large and Airy Late 19th Century Pink Mother-of-Pearl Fan, the monture gilded and silvered, the cream( or extremely pale green) gauze leaf painted with a spray of white bell flowers on deep green foliage, with entwined initials, including C M L and ?, the verso plain. Contained in a sturdy card fan box, the exterior lid decorated in gold with scrolling and a basket of flowers, the interior bearing the label for ''V. Marcot, Fan Manufacturer, 18 Newman Street, Oxford Street, London W. Guard length 14 inches or 35.5cm (4)The green silk has splits in places and nicks to the top of some folds. The upper guard has been repaired and the first stick in is stuck to it. The sequins are bright. Black fan, there are several broken ribs and one stick is loose, the sequins are starting to tarnish; some light foxing to the cream fan and the leaf needs to be re-secured to the monture. Two ribs have broken and been repaired. Last fan - The upper guard has been repaired. The lower guard is broken mid-way. The gauze is thin and indeed split on some of the folds, to the left.. Good colour.

Lot 2179

A Late 19th Century Japanese Ivory Fan, the guards lacquered in gold featuring birds in flight, perched on bamboo, and a crane beneath, both inlaid with small areas of Shibayama to highlight the vegetation. The gorge has similar lacquer decoration with birds, branches and butterflies. The double leaf, painted in pastels, depicts a river scene with small rural settlement, the points of some of the rooves serving to draw the eye to Mount Fuji towering in the distance. Subtle gold highlights give interest to the leaf. The verso is painted in similar colours with a rocky outcrop where birds seek blossoms and ducks and other wild fowl gather to seek feed and rest. Silver metal shaped and embossed loop, the black lacquer fan box having a catch decorated in similar fashion. Guard length 16 inches or 41cm (2)The box catch is not holding. The fan is in strong clean condition.

Lot 2102

A Shocking Pink (à la Schiaparelli) Fan, the silk leaf mounted on horn or resin sticks, carved and pierced at the top, gilded with a leaf design, and being further shaped attractively at the shoulder, making floral shapes which are emphasised on the gorge with gilding. The leaf, a gold net overlaid with bright pink silk, is extensively embroidered with tiny gold and silver sequins, the silk cut away to form interlinked scrolls. Unusually, the top section is embroidered in a lattice in pink embroidery silk. Together with a cream card fan box with pale silk lining. Guard length 9.5 inches or 24cm (2)Backing gauze split on a few folds. Clean, good monture, a fine quality fan, surprisingly not marked for the éventailliste, and neither is the box.

Contained in a simple card fan box, bearing gold lettering for the retailer Dickins and Jones Limited, Fan Specialists, Regent Street, London, inside the lidVery good, sequins shiny, fabric strong.

An Early 19th Century Ivory Fan, circa 1810 to 1820's, the sticks carved and silvered, with detailed and inlaid decoration of shaped metal roundels, the gorge particularly ornate. Barrel head. The double silk leaf is painted with a colourful scene of four ladies wearing flowing high waisted robes and gladiator sandals, seated outdoors, one being chased by an Asp. The reserves feature side sprays of painted roses, and 4 small blue ovals in Wedgewood plaque style, verso plain cream. The borders are embellished with scrolling in tiny gold and silver sequins. Contained in the bottom half of a card fan box lined in pink silk. Guard length 9.25 inches or 23.5cm (2) Purchased at Christie's SK on July 9th 1985 for £140.00The upper guard has a repair. The top half of the lower guard is a replacement. The leaf has good colour, the gold is shiny, some staining and restoration seen on both sides, and it is a little dry. Tiny slivers missing from the gorge piercing. No lid for the fan box

An Early 20th Century Bone Fan, mounted with a cream double gauze leaf and applied with black machine lace. Guard length 8 inches or 20.5cm. together with A Telescopic Fan, with black wooden sticks mounted with a plain black silk leaf, guard length 7.25 inches or 18.5cm when closed down; A Further Large Black Machine Lace Fan, Late 19th Century, mounted on black wooden sticks, the lace appliqued to black gauze which is painted with birds, contained in a plain wooden fan box, guard length 13.5 inches or 34.5cm; and A Fourth Fan, Late 19th Century, the bone monture lightly carved and pierced, the cream gauze leaf appliqued with cream machine lace, and painted with wild flowers and leaves, five dragonflies in pink and pastel blue flying overhead, details being highlighted with embroidered tiny sequins in blue, silver and gold. Guard length 13.75 inches or 35cm (5)First fan: the machine lace is a little damaged at the top edge and the cream gauze backing requires attention. The telescopic fan is in good order. The gauze leaf on the black lace fan is very slightly split away from the upper guard, and the final fan is very pretty and has the remains of a sticky label at the tip of the upper guard.

Lot 2123

An Early 20th Century Fan, the tortoiseshell monture plain but with attractive mottling. The double leaf, silk to the recto and cotton to the verso, features a central vignette of a suitor attempting to impress his chosen lady, who is seated on a bench and listening politely. Two side vignettes feature gardens, one in the Spring with early flowers, the other in Winter with birds in the skies. The borders and reserves are embroidered with tiny gold and silver sequins, serving to emphasise the paintings and additional features of floral baskets. Guard length 8.75 inches or 22cm. Together with A Hinged Fan Box covered in woven silk brocade, gold braid to the edges, catches for closure, cream damask silk lining, and the inner lid carries the label for Nathalie, 187a Sloane street, London; And A Pink Mother-of-Pearl Fan, the monture plain, the double gauze leaf, in cream, embroidered with gold sequins of various sizes and shapes, in a regular design featuring a deeper top border. Contained in a card fan box with an outer pattern of blue roses. Guard length 8 inches or 20.5cm (3)For the tortoiseshell fan, the silk has suffered from damp, clearly seen from the verso, but the extent of the decoration to the recto and the brightness of the sequins help to keep the fan's appeal. To the far right, next to the upper guard, the leaf is holed and daylight can be seen when held to the light. Some other folds have minor splits. The two central folds have major splits but the backing holds the fan in place. The box lid is faded as the colour to the sides and underneath is stronger, the cream lining is worn at each end. The mother of pearl fan is generally clean and bright, the sequins shiny, some light foxing seen best from the verso, and two folds to the right on the recto are splitting, with the leaf next to the lower guard starting to show signs of strain.

Lot 2044

A Small Art Nouveau Folding Fan, with hallmarked silver guards, repoussé with period designs, with faux tortoiseshell sticks. Fitted with a tiny ring from which to hang a ribbon or fix to a belt. On sliding a catch in the metal, a half cockade fan with faux tortoiseshell sticks is revealed, the metal frame then becoming the handle. When closed 12cm. Together with A Boxed ''Mechanical'' Fan, with three tortoiseshell blades, fitted to a circular tortoiseshell base, gilded, with side mechanism. Contained in the original box, ''La Brise, breveté en France et à l'Etranger PARIS. Printed inside the lid, are 3 ovals with sketches of a lady demonstrating the use of the fan (2)Silver frame, some repairs to the base of the sticks but all works well. Breveté fan: Box slightly damaged.

Lot 2071

A Large Mid-19th Century Mother-of-Pearl Fan, with substantial sticks, the monture silvered, carved and pierced, the gorge further painted with a central cartouche of a water feature, flowers, and birds in flight. The upper guard is embellished with a silver metal panel to the upper third, containing a mirror, the wide shoulders tapering into a carved plaited design for the lower third. The lower guard, with a similar metal panel, features a plaque with black background and white cameo style head in profile. The narrow double paper leaf shows a village setting with buildings in various forms, families and friends at leisure outside. The verso, with similar pastel painting to the gorge, shows more rural figures, in traditional costume. Contained in a card fan box with blue exterior and a very small label to the interior, for ''J&W Milne, 126 Princess Street, Edinburgh'', a crown above the wording. Guard length 11.5 inches or 29cm. Together A Large Late 19th Century Fan, the double paper leaf mounted on simple wooden sticks, lightly gilded. The recto, with bold gold background, shows three ladies relaxing in a rose arbour, one encouraging doves, another reading. The reserves feature wild flowers, a butterfly and nearby water. The verso, in dark plum, is plain. Guard length 13.5 inches or 34.5cm (2)The upper guard of the mother of pearl fan has been repaired with a long pearl splint. The lower guard has a metal plate supporting the lower section. The leaf has rubbing to most folds and some splitting, but generally the leaf is holding. Some slight loss to the dark paint in the reserves. The box is worn to most edges but holding well. The paper fan has slight damage to the lower border, where some folds are torn.

Lot 2164

A Late 19th/Early 20th Century Brussels Point De Gaze Needlelace Fan, the leaf mounted on pink Mother of Pearl with gilded decoration. The leaf is designed with a large spray of roses, with detail to the petals, accompanied by smaller flowers and foliage. Guard length 9.5 inches or 24cm. Contained in a card fan box covered in cream silk. Together with An Edwardian pink Mother-of-Pearl Fan, the monture unadorned, mounted with a leaf of black gauze edged with black machine lace, the lace descending towards the centre to wrap round a spray of flowers painted in sort greens, lemon and cream. Contained in a shaped pink card fan box embellished with silver to the outer lid and lined with cream silk (4)The Brussels lace is in good order. One bone rib has broken so the gorge stick is loose, all parts present. The gauze fan is sound and clean.

Lot 2104

A Circa 1900 White Mother-of-Pearl Fan, the heavy monture clouté in silver in regular designs. The cream gauze, backed with thin cream gauze, is embroidered with swirls of silver sequins of differing sizes, the sequins decreasing in size as the swirl size decreases. The inner sequins are flower shaped. Rope effect silver metal loop. Contained in a card fan box with leather effect exterior, marked for Benjamin Lachelin Eventailliste 32 Avenue de L'Opera, Paris. Guard length 9.5 inches or 24cm Purchased at Christie's on October 23rd 1979 for £45.00. A very shiny fan as it catches the light, and no loss to the sequins noted. The monture is sound. The gauze is however split on many folds, the sheer amount of sequins holding the leaf together and the fabric is not shedding.

Lot 2060

A Circa 1830's or 1840's White Mother-of-Pearl Fan, the monture carved, pierced, gilded and silvered, both guards with a mirror inserted near to the tip. The double paper leaf has several different scenes, some with winged cherubs. To the left an elegant lady holds a single red rose and looks pensively into the distance, a similar scene to the right. The main cartouche shows a young man in his bed, a doctor and older family members present, stretching out his arms to receive a pretty young lady who appears to have just arrived in a carriage. The verso is decorated with sprays of flowers in green and gold. Contained in a card fan box with decoration to the lift-off lid. Together with A Jenny Lind or Palmette Fan, the monture of carved wood painted gold, the leaf panels in cream sparsely embroidered with gold sequins; and A Black Net Fan, embroidered with silver sequins of differing shapes and sizes. The monture is clouté. Guard lengths: 10.5 inches or 27cm; 10.5 inches or 26.5cm; and 9 inches or 24cm (3)MOP fan: Fair to good. The verso is stained and has old repairs and some areas that would benefit from more attention. Rather crude repair to the upper guard. Generally sound. The box is grubby and has areas of wear. The Jenny Lind leaf is missing the lower guard and is a little soiled, and some of the end panels are curled under. Black fan: the top border of the leaf has loss in places, the sequins are bright and shiny. Fan generally sound.

Lot 2086

An Elegant Early 20th Century Fan, the monture of white mother-of-pearl carved and pierced, silvered and gilded, the cream leaf mounted à l'Anglaise, embroidered with gold and silver sequins and painted with dancers dressed in 18th century costume being observed by others. Contained with a simple card fan box. Together with A Circa 1890's Fan, of beige gauze bordered with slightly yellow machine lace, a young couple in 18th century dress painted centrally, the reserves with light gilding and tiny gold sequins, the monture of simple shaped wooden sticks painted pale lemon, lightly gilded. Guard length 9.75 inches or 25cm; and 12 inches or 31cm (2)Good for the first fan, the gorge particularly attractive. The lace fan leaf is splitting on the top layer of gauze, but holding.

An Elegant Circa 1900 Fan, the silver gauze leaf of palmette form, applied with a strong ivory net and ivory silk and lavishly embroidered with silver sequins and spangles, featuring a heart to the centre. The monture, of white Mother-of-pearl, is shaped, and clouté in silver, the gorge being carved and pierced. Marked for Duvelleroy on the verso. Together with a cream card fan box marked Duvelleroy with domed lid. Guard length 8.5 inches or 21.5cm, overall height 10.5 inches or 27cm Purchased at Christie's SK on May 22nd 1984 for £170.00Fan shiny fan. Loss of a little cloute

An Early 20th Century Bone Fan, the single gauze leaf embroidered in silver sequins of various shapes and sizes, in the forms of ribbons and bows below laurel wreaths, all within a sequin border. Guard length 8.5 inches or 21.5 inches. Together with An Early 20th Century Bone Fan, the monture carved and painted in dull gold. The double leaf being cerise silk to the recto and gauze to the verso, the recto embroidered with several varied shapes and sizes of gold spangles. Contained in a floral fabric covered fan box in pink, cream and green, the inside lid bearing the label for E.D. Creusy, 48 rue Mesley, Paris. Guard length 7.5 inches or 19cm (3)The cream fan's lower guard is repaired down by the rivet. The silk on the second fan is splitting. Box a little out of shape but otherwise sound.

An Elegant Early 20th Century Cream Gauze Fan, the monture of white mother-of-pearl, the leaf embroidered with swags and bows of pale blue ribbon, complementing a profusion of gold sequins of various shapes and sizes, contained in a card fan box covered in cream silk and lined in cream, the inner lid bearing the gold attribution for J Duvelleroy, Regent Street, London and further ''Manufactured in Paris''. Together with A Black Wooden Fan, the monture clouté in silver metal, the double leaf embroidered with silver sequins; and Two Further Bone Fans, embroidered with sequins, on cream gauze, Regency period one with a barrel head. Guard lengths: 8.5 inches or 22cm; 9.5 inches or 24cm; 6.75 inches or 17cm and 6.5 cm or 16.5cm (4)All the cream gauze fans have an element of staining, the later example with less, but deeper marks. The fan with the barrel rivet has loose sequins and damaged net.

A retro gentleman's Omega Automatic Dynamic stainless steel wristwatch, silver coloured dial with blue chapter ring and date aperture, pierced blue strap and buckle, in an Omega box CONDITION REPORT: Postage for this lot would cost in the region of £10-£15 depending on final hammer price and insurance required. The piece appears to be in exceptionally good condition and showing little signs of wear. The strap is in very good order, it may be a replacement as it looks to be in such good condition. I have not opened the back of this watch to inspect the movement as I do not have the correct tool. The box is also showing little signs of wear. An Edwardian novelty silver elephant pin cushion, Birmingham 1908, 4.5cm long, with a silver ring box / pin cushion, 12cm (2) (At fault) CONDITION REPORT: Elephant - Two solder repairs to the trunk, dent to the top of the head of the elephant. Marks rubbed but still just about legible. Several dents to the side, cushion half gone and sawdust coming out, generally showing wear. Box - cover appears to have the original covering and is a little tatty, silk inside cover perishing. Velvet lined interior is showing signs of wear. Base missing. Some surface scratching and wear throughout, marks very slightly rubbed but still legible.

Lot 63

A set of four Walker and Hall silver plated and gilt condiments, modelled as baskets with rope twist handles, each 7.5cm wide, in fitted case CONDITION REPORT: These baskets are each stamped to the base with the W&H flag, and impressed numerals 1471 and 96. I would suggest that this is an early period mark indicating circa 1860-1900 time period. There are four spoons with the set, which have beaded rims and gilt bowls, they may be associated, but have the Walker and Hall flag mark and date letter capital B. All appear to be in good order, with some minor surface scratching and wear, but generally condition is good. The box is a little tatty in places and lacking some of the leatherette covering.
