WW2 1943 King’s Dragoon Guards Attributed Casualty Military Cross Group of Five Medals & Prize Medallions.This group is attributed to Major Anthony Charles Stuart Delmege MC for action in the Western Desert 1943. Comprising: Military Cross “1943”, 1939/45 Star, Africa Star, Italy Star, War Medal. Medals loose unnamed as awarded. ... The group is accompanied by a number of silver and bronze prize medallions, many named with details of the competition. ... Wood cigarette box carved to the lid with the regimental device. ... Silver plated cap badge. .. etc.The recommendation for the award of the Military Cross is dated April 1943.“Major Delmege has performed gallant and meritorious service as Squadron Leader, from May 1942 and is still doing so. His Sqn has been in action almost continuously. This Officer was 2nd in command of a Sqn throughout the whole Tobruk siege and subsequent operations and his devotion to duty was an inspiration to all.” His recommendation signed by Field Marshal Montgomery.He was also awarded a MID on the 15th December 1942.Major Anthony Charles Stuart Delmege MC a pre war regular Officer in 1935 was appointed ADC to the Governor of Madras, he is also recorded as commanding No. 4 Recce Squadron.Provenance: Through Delmege family descent.
21st (Empress of India) Lancers 1904 London hallmarked silver cigarette box.A good plain rectangular example with slightly domed lid engraved with crown over VRI superimposed on crossed lances with pennons over “H.D. from H.F.F.”. Cedar lined with adjustable partition. Leather underside. GC (approx. 19 x 10 x 5 cms)H.D. refers to Lieutenant Delmege who was commissioned into 21st Lancers, promoted Captain 1907 and served as Adjutant to the North Somerset Yeomanry, wounded whilst with 21st in the Dardenelles, promoted Major 1915, resigned 1919. Provenance: Through Delmege family descent.
