A fine oil painting on canvas of an officer of The 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards, seated in full dress, his arm resting on the hilt of his mameluke sword, with belt buckle “4DG”, his 1812-18 pattern helmet on a table beside him, wearing a Waterloo medal (he evidently transferred to the 4th D. Guards as they were not at Waterloo), 11½” x 9½”, framed in gilt. Good Condition, Plate 27
An impressive officer’s helmet of the 2nd Belgian Regiment of Carabiniers, c 1815-20, gilt brass skull and peaks with applied gilt mounts, comprising embossed headband, acanthus side ornaments, rayed ear rosettes with lion head centres, lion head helmet plate and tall ornamental comb with panelled sides and grenade in front, black hair plume with short tail. Good Condition, retaining much original gilt (lining, chinscales and side plume missing). Plate 50. Note: see lot 259 a miniature of an officer with similar helmet on table.
A Belgian cuircassier’s helmet c 1815 of the 5th Regiment, steel skull, broad beaver fur headband, leather peak, brass binding to rim and peak, tall brass comb with panelled sides, Medusa Head finial over breastplate bearing “5” badge to the front, black hair shaving brush plume and long hair falling back horsehair plume, leather backed chinscales, with star on disc ear roundels, leather and silk lining. Good Condition, (sword stroke dent to skull, minor wear and tarnish commensurate with age) Plate 51
A trooper’s helmet of the 1st Life Guards 1815, black leather skull, gilt brass peak with edge binding, all round headband embossed with scales, plate bearing crowned reversed and interlaced “GR” cypher, with small tablet below stamped “First Life Guards”, socket for side plume, scalloped, leaf and Medusa head embossed comb with blue and red wool crest. Good Condition (lining and chinscales missing, peak detached but present). Plate 59

Obverse high relief head of Wellington right with “Wellington” behind; reverse: a grieving Britannia sits facing a column bearing helmet and dagger, legend “Plorant In Fvnere Gentes” with date “Sept XIV MDCCCLII” in exergue, diam. 58mm. GEF, with nice dark ‘chocolate’ tone. In a Hunt and Roskell case. Plate 1. Note: G.G. Adams also made Wellington’s death mask.
