Lieutentant James William Main D.S.C., Royal Navy:- his Second World black silk bicorn hat with gold bullion trim, a pair of gold lace and morocco epaulettes, a pair of rank shoulder straps and dress belt, all by Gieves, London in original black japanned tin, also his tropical service helmet in tin; a Naval dirk, the blade etched with ER VIII cypher, with brass mounted leather scabbard; three copper dishes from HMS Royal Sovereign 1917, his commission to Sub-Lieutenant, cased drawing instruments, medal ribbons, a Defence Medal and a copy of award letter for DSC, various photographs and ephemera, together with a 110cm by 224cm Union Jack **Lt. James William Main was awarded the DSC for his skilful navigation to clear a path through a minefield off Ouistreham, Sword Beach, Normandy, see page 5455 Supplement to London Gazette 24th November 1944.
