Brigadier Johnson's WWI Royal Artillery full dress tunic (1902-1914). Comprising a stable jacket and dress jacket; Royal Field Artillery red waistcoat; braids; ball top blue cloth officer's helmet with chain; field service cap; pillbox cap; shoulder belt with buckle, tip and slide; many buttons; patches; pair of spurs.Formerly owned by Brigadier General George Napier Johnston (1867-1947)Brigadier General George Napier Johnston was born in Canada on 20 August 1867 and trained at the Royal Military College of Canada in Ontario. He served in British India as an artillery instructor followed by secondment to the New Zealand Military Forces in 1904 New Zealand. During his time, he served during the Gallipoli Campaigns and on the Western Front.He was appointed Commander Royal Artillery, 52nd (Lowland) Division, and then promoted to the rank of Colonel in April 1920, retiring from the military in 1924 with the honorary rank of Brigadier-General, and was also made a Companion of the Order of the Bath. He died on 3 April 1947 in Dar es Salaam in Tanganyika (now Tanzania).He produced substantial correspondence and diary entries during his service, nine volumes of which are in the Imperial War Museum National Archives. The correspondence was "kept during his service as Commander Royal Artillery, New Zealand and Australian Division, 1915-1916, and as CRA New Zealand Division, 1916-1919, with excellent references to conditions in the Dardanelles campaign, the calibre of Allied and enemy troops at Gallipoli …" (https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/1030010106)He married Margaret Hilda Stairs in Cork Cathedral on 9th August 1893, and they had two children, George III Stairs Napier Johnston and Hilda Margaret Johnston. Rare helmet in medieval style, Hounskull, Germany 19th century. Hounskull, Hundsgugel (dog hood) is a type of bascinet-type helmet with a cone-shaped visor strongly extended forward. This shape of the visor increased its surface area, which made it possible to provide it with many ventilation holes. The helmet was used by European knighthood in the XIV-XV centuries. length 30 cm.
A rare Samurai helmet "kabuto", Edo period (1603-1868) Japan. An original metal helmet decorated with copper and brass decorative details. The hair is white in color at the back, imitating the Yokai (Japanese demon), Yamanba (mountain hag). Blue fabric lining inside the helmet. An excellent item for collecting artifacts from the Samurai era. Width 29 cm.
Three Various George III Silver Cream-Jugs, one London, 1767, pear-shaped and on three legs, with overhead leaf-capped handle; one perhaps by Hester Bateman, London, 1776, baluster and on spreading foot and one London, 1787, helmet-shaped and engraved with foliage swags, 14.5cm high and smaller, total weight 8oz 10dwt, 264gr (3)Each piece is marked as expected. There is some wear to the marks on some, with some marks only partly or just visible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There is some bruising. The second two have been perhaps repaired where the body meets the base.
