A Derby porcelain figure of Britannia: modelled standing in draped cloak with helmet, breastplate and shield, holding a metal spear, with a lion and trophies of war at her feet, on a scroll moulded base, patch marks to base, circa 1760-70, 27 cm high excluding spear, [restored hands, plume and trumpet].
MORIN SCOTT, MBE, FNI (1922 to 2009) was a well-known Gentleman race competitor of the 1950s, primarily in Maserati single-seaters. He also raced a fearsome 8-Litre Hispano Suiza with great success, a car he later toured Europe in. This lot comprises his period crash helmet, complete with original enamel Hispano Suiza badge, period photographs of him competing, a Coppa Monza rally plaque and his map route book, used on many European rallies, together with sundry items. Printed in Italy in the c1970/80s, with Italian text throughout. Linen backed for preservation, then professionally mounted and framed behind Perspex. Approximately 145x105cm (poster).
CYCLING: Dennis Horn (1909-1974) British Cyclist, English Champion during the 1930s. Vintage signed postcard photograph of Horn in a profile head and shoulders pose wearing his cycling helmet. Signed in fountain pen ink to a clear area of the image; Bernard Guyot (1945- ) French Cyclist, competed at the Olympic Games, 1964. Vintage signed postcard photograph of Guyot in a half length pose wearing his cycling shirt. Signed in blue ink to the centre of the image with slightly weaker contrast. [BURNS STEPHEN]: (1921-1943) British Flight Sergeant, Rear Gunner of Lancaster ED936/G AJ-H of 617 Squadron on the Dambusters Raid, 16th May 1943. A flying helmet used by Burns during World War II, the dark brown leather helmet made by H. Bednall of Walsall and bearing their label (additionally printed with the size No.3 7 1/8 - 7 3/8 and year 1938) to the inside, with two adjustable straps to the rear, chin strap and zipped ear covers, the inside principally chamois and with a felt forehead strip and padded chamois leather rings for the ear receivers. Also featuring two chamois straps and studs attached to either side at cheek level (for securing communication equipment leads). Bearing several ink marks and numbers to the inside including S.G.F. 4. Some age wear, G The present lot is accompanied by a copy of a photograph of Burns wearing this flying helmet. Provenance: Accompanied by a copy of a typed inventory of the Burns Archive prepared by a previous owner in 2001 when he acquired the material from Dorothy Mundon, the sister of Stephen Burns. The present helmet is listed on the inventory, and also included in the lot is a copy of a handwritten letter from Mundon to the previous owner explaining that she has been through the inventory and that it is correct.

French Second Empire, Brass Fireman's (Casque de Pompier) helmet. High brass comb with 2nd Empire Eagle badge and the legend 'POMPIERS DE COURTERANGES'. Helmet is the 1855 Pattern (2nd Empire) with its original brass chin scales. Please note the liner is absent. A lovely old, highly decorative brass helmet from the mid 19th century. In good original condition.
Malta uniform items. Steel Mk2 British helmet with the distinctive ‘Maltese’ markings, Aertex khaki drill shirt with Corporals white chevrons on each sleeve and a pair of 1941 Pattern khaki drill shorts (these are the early type with the Field Dressing pocket at the front). All in worn condition. The shorts have some buttons missing but the two hart-to-find buckles are present. (3 parts)
