A leather double breasted three quarter length driving coat, a leather flying helmet and goggles (3) Condition report Report by MW The coat has general wear commensurate with age. The leather feels soft but there is general scuffing along the seams, shoulders, collar etc. No seams are coming apart. Two buttons are missing from the front of the coat. Chest size is approx. 42 inches. There is no vertical split to the back of the coat. Measurement from centre of shoulder to the end of the sleeve is approx. 32 1/2 inches long.
Good 17th Century English Civil War Period Cavalry Troopers ‘Lobster Tail’ Helmet, the skull raised from a single plate and embossed with 6 radial ribs retaining small portions of its original leather lining, 4 plate articulated neck guard, fixed peak with thumb screw adjustable nasal bar, original ear flaps each with pierced radial device, iron rivets and turned over borders, the apex of the skull fitted with an embossed disc and a pierced knop to suspend the helmet from the saddle when not being worn. These helmets are also known as ‘Dutch pots’ or Zischagge. Good condition and good age patina. See ‘Arms and armour of the English civil wars’ D Blackmore, Royal Armouries, 1990, Fig 11 for identical helmet.
A reproduction full size suit of armour, raised on ebonised square base, height 174cm (excluding base). CONDITION REPORT: Separates into parts - helmet, torso, shoulders and arms, legs. The mannequin is attached to base and does not split. Would require approximately 6 large boxes if to be posted, but please double check/confirm this after auction if postage required.
A mixed group of suit of armour related items, including a companion stand modelled as a knight, height 67cm, two wall hangings, one modelled as armour front and helmet, the other as a gauntlet, a reproduction sword inscribed "Carlos V", length 108cm, a further decorative brass handled example etc, three framed prints and two others.
