A rare Bow porcelain figure of a Turk and companion. c.1765, she wearing a helmet and an ermine edged pale yellow cloak, dark blue bodice and sky blue skirt with puce sprigs within gilded reserves, he in a turban, pale yellow cloak with puce lining, rose and foliate patterned jacket, dark blue trousers and pale yellow boots, standing before a flowered tree, on a pierced and scroll moulded four footed base, enriched with turquoise and gilding, underglaze dark blue crescent mark to base, 8½in. (21.5cm.) high, each figure lacks one hand, losses to tree, one foot off and reattached, two large firing cracks to base. * For a similar figure, see `Bow Porcelain. Lund Humphries 1982, p.145, plate 242. ** Provenance: Included in a 1949 inventory of porcelain bequeathed to Dr. John Alistair Burkhardt by his aunt, Miss Charlotte Mary Sandford of 27, The Little Boltons, South Kensington. The inventory was prepared by White Berry & Catford, Valuers, 28 Cadogan Place, SW1 and dated 3rd March 1949. Most of the pieces on this inventory are included in our auction catalogue (lots 15 to 49).
