A green patinated bronze model of Mercury after Giambologna, second half 19th century, the deity portrayed balancing on his left leg, on a stepped circular white marble and granite socle and square plinth, the bronze 51cm high, overall height 72cmCondition Report: Mottled green patination. A George III silver vinaigrette of oval form, the cover engraved with symbols of war including lances and shield, together with Dove of Peace, the underside with symbols of agriculture including sheaf of barley, pitchfork, scythe, etc, opening to reveal a gilt-washed interior, the pierced grille decorated with flags and plumed helmet on a pedestal (by Thomas Wilkes Barker, London 1801), 3.3 cm x 2.9 cm x 1.2 cm, 0.43 oz CONDITION REPORTS Hinges open and close correctly to the box and the grille. There do not appear to have been any repairs to the hinges or to the box or grille. There does not appear to be "excessive" wear to the surfaces though there are signs of minor surface scratching conducive with age and use. The base has indentation to the centre which may or may not have been caused by the engraving and there is some minor denting. The interior has two small scratches to the right hand side of the border of the grille. See images for further detail.

A Man in armour watercolour on paper 39.5 x 27cmFootnote: The present watercolour is a copy after the painting on panel in the National Gallery, London, where the composition derives from the figure of St George in armour in Giorgione's 'Castelfranco Madonna' altarpiece. Both the watercolour and the National Gallery painting eliminate the Saint's helmet and crop the composition so that the flag at the top of the staff is no longer visible. Another 19th century copy of this composition, in oil, is in the Victoria and Albert Museum.

To the front, a helmet plate of crowned Maltese cross, lions between the arms; bearing title circlet, the centre with reversed and interlaced RH cypher. The interior with leather sweatband. Remains in good condition, with some age wear and stitching faults to the chin chain. GC

Hochwertige Arbeit einer Kunstgießerei nach dem Vorbild der italienischen "a la antiqua"-Paradehelme der Spätrenaissance. Battlefield and allegorical scenes on the sides of the skull, trophy décor on the comb. Hollow-wrought peak and neck guard. The exterior silver-plated and heavily patinated. Height 30 cm. Outstanding workmanship, made by an art foundry after the Italian "all'antica" parade helmets of the late Renaissance. Condition: II
