A Victorian dress sword with chased gilt grip and helmet pommel, the etched double edge blade with VR monogram, later scabbard. note. This dress sword belonged to Sir Charles Lemon, 2nd Baronet of Carclew, son of Sir William Lemon, 1st Baronet. Sir Charles and his family lived in the, now lost, country estate at Carclew. Having been born into a family deeply involved in Cornish politics, Sir Charles followed suit. In several stints between 1807 and 1857 he served as an M.P. in Cornwall, during which time he led the petition against the removal of the packet service in Falmouth and funded the establishment of the Camborne School of Mines. He tragically lost all three of his children at a young age meaning the baronetcy became extinct after his death.
