WW1 British Helmet with Kent Painted Insignia, interesting example of a 2nd pattern Brodie steel helmet with rim. Helmet has dark paint finish to the shell. Front has original painted red shield and rearing horse, normally the insignia associated with the county of Kent. Interior of the helmet retains its original oilskin liner and brown leather chinstrap. Pink Brodie stamp underside of the oilskin liner. Some light wear but generally a good example.

WW1 Royal Naval Division Marked Brodie Steel Helmet, being a 2nd pattern example with rim. Helmet has a rough textured khaki paint finish to the exterior and interior of the shell. To both sides is a painted formation / divisional sign which we believe to relate to one of the Royal Naval Division battalions. Interior of the helmet has the original brown leather chinstrap and a unusually constructed private purchase padded cloth lining. We are of the opinion that the paint work and liner are later additions.

WW2 British Mark III Steel Combat Helmet, known as the 1944 pattern or “Turtle” pattern due to its resemblance to a turtle’s shell. This example retains much of its original combat rough textured paint finish. Shell with high placed liner securing rivets. Complete with its liner and webbing chinstrap. Liner is marked but the date is not clear, however this is a wartime period example with the high liner rivets. These helmets were first worn by the British and Canadian assault troops on D-Day.

WW2 British Home Front National ARP for Animals Guards Steel Helmet, good untouched example of a civilian pattern British steel helmet painted in blue / grey colour. To the front of the helmet is an original decal for the National A.R.P for Animals. Helmet is complete with its original 1941 dated liner system, no chinstrap. Some wear to the decal and rusting overall. The National Air Raid Precautions Animals committee was established for the welfare of working and civilian animals during wartime.

WW2 British Royal Artillery Marked Combat Helmet, good untouched example of the standard pattern WW2 British combat helmet which retains much of its original combat paint finish. To one side is the diamond insignia of the Royal Artillery. Helmet is complete with its original although damaged camouflaged combat netting which you can clearly see has never been removed since first being placed on the helmet. Small sections damaged and missing. Interior of the helmet has original 1939 dated liner and chinstrap. Good untouched example.

Helmet has linked chinstrap and leather liner to the interior. Accompanied by a parade cuirass set, mint condition parade belt and buckle and a set of cuirass straps. All modern issue.

WW1 French Battle-Damaged Adrian Pattern Combat Helmet, fine untouched example of a WW1 French infantry Adrian pattern steel combat helmet, retaining much of its original horizon blue paint finish to the shell. Infantry pattern flamed grenade bade to the centre. Complete with the original leather chinstrap and part only of the original liner system. The front peak has a penetration hole from a bullet, the top comb securing fittings are also been period replaced with wire loops. An interesting untouched time capsule helmet.

Rare WW1 American Ambulance Field Service Adrian Pattern Steel Helmet, fine example of a standard model Adrian helmet with much of its horizon blue paint finish to the exterior and interior of the shell. Helmet has the American eagle and US shield badge of the organisation to the front. Interior of the helmet retains its original two colour leather liner system and leather chinstrap. Some rusting to the exterior of the shell but generally a good example. The American Field Service was a group of American Volunteers who served overseas, mostly with the French Army, before America entered the war in 1917. The volunteers were mostly medical service and drove ambulances, transporting wounded men to behind the lines. At its height, the Field Service numbered 2,000 volunteers and operated not only on the Western Front in France but also in the battle areas of Italy, Greece, Serbia and Albania. The service attracted young volunteers from the American literati: college students, poets and writers including an eighteen-year-old Ernest Hemingway who used the experience as the basis of his novel A Farewell to Arms. The volunteers were expected to pay for their transportation to Europe and for their meals while there. The American Ambulance Field Service operated as an independent volunteer agency until America's entrance into the war in 1917 when it was absorbed by the American Army.

Vendor states that this helmet was brought back to the UK by a British soldier on the Nordic ferry, after the campaign in the South Atlantic.

Asian carved shelf and three (3) hardwood plaques, 4 items total. 1st item: Chinese or Japanese carved ebonized hardwood shelf with mirror and two watercolor paintings. Elaborately carved pierced crest emulating intertwined flowering prunus vines extending from a central branch, over a shallow, molded shelf with curved front ends. Vertical panel below, with relief carved prunus blossoms surrounding a central rectangular mirror and two (2) paintings (watercolor on laid paper), one (1) depicting scholars at work at a table and one (1) depicting young men practicing archery. Mortise and tenon construction. 15 1/2" H x 26 1/2" W x 3 1/2"D. Late 19th century or earlier. 2nd-4th items: Three (3) carved Chinese or Japanese hardwood panels or plaques with low relief decoration including peony and fruit, immortal with scroll, and warrior with spear, each enclosed in matching bamboo style ebonized frames. Panels late 19th to early 20th century, frames possibly later. Ranging in size from 5 1/2" H x 31" W x 1" D to 12 1/2" H x 8 1/4" W x 1" D. Provenance: Nashville, Tennessee collection. Consignor's mother acquired during travels in Asia. CONDITION: 1st item: Mirror is a fairly recent replacement. Shrinkage cracks around openings for watercolors; one watercolor (right hand side) is loose in frame. That watercolor has been removed from frame and is not glued down. Some minor warping to shelf. 2nd-4th items: Plaques depicting men have some small chips/losses to clouds and tips of warrior's helmet, up to 3/4" L.
