Captain J Henderson Quartermaster, 1st North York Volunteer Artillery Officers home service helmet in tin box inscribed to J Henderson, by Hobson & Sons, 1.3 & 5 Lexington Street, Golden Square, London W. his dress sword with etched blade and steel scabbard,Dress Pouch and Crossbelts together with his helmet badge, plume, dog tags, Sam Brown belt, silver presentation cup and related photographs, letters and other paperwork.
Seven regimental plumes, Horse guards helmet plume, and two other horse hair plumes on leather straps and two leather standard sockets. Part of a small collection, leather holders collected not purchased with the plumes. Overall condition is good with no major faults found, age believed to be late 1930s but may be later. A rare WW2 Russian Model 1936 (SSh-36) Steel Combat Helmet, the shell with its flared sides and top comb, centre of the helmet has red painted Star with Hammer and Sickle, interior with black leather sweatband with six fingers and a brown leather chinstrap, stamped ‘3 1080’ These are now scarcely found helmets which were worn in the early part of the Second World War (Great Patriotic War) before being replaced by the more common SSh-39 and SSh-40 models.
A British Second World War brown leather Type C flying helmet with pair of goggles the helmet named to F/Lt. Kennard, dated Feb ’42, the earphones with Air Ministry markings the interior with chamois lining, complete with oxygen mask, microphone assembly and headphone connections (early model, with leather chinstraps) *A cursory search finds a Hugh Charles Kennard (DFC) promoted to a Flight Lieutenant in 1941 and assisting in the formation of 121 Squadron. He was made Squadron Leader in early 1942 and was shot down and wounded in July of what year while participating in a bomber-escort mission. Despite that, he returned to flying, becoming a Squadron Leader in 1943 and finally relinquishing his commission in 1959.
