Ladies Belstaff leather motorcycling jacket together with a child's Charles and Owen riding helmet CONDITION REPORT Has been worn, some wear to arms and inside. No interior armour. Has velcro. Some wear to leather but otherwise in good condition. The riding hat does not have a size but it is for a child.
A Colourful Mid-19th Century Lithographed Fan, the double paper leaf mounted on carved, pierced and gilded bone, the recto with three separate scenes, two featuring figures in armour. To the right, a winged Angel and a lady (Athena) wearing a helmet, speak to a young lady holding her child. Centrally, a male figure in ruby red robes and gilded armour speaks to a similar lady, several children at their feet, a baby held in the arms of the Angel and another female, Hermes and perhaps Athena above. To the left, a Queen with 3 children and another lady. The verso shows a musical gathering to the centre, and two further vignettes with couples, and small scenes all featuring musical instruments and players, the details in gold, against a very deep blue ground. Guard length 10.5 inches or 26.5cm. Together with A Mid-9th Century Bone Fan, gilded and pierced, inset with tiny gold roundels, mounted with a double paper/lithographed leaf, the recto showing a King listening to music in the company of two ladies. The reserves are dark, and gilded. The recto by contrast, in pastel colours, shows a mountain landscape with pine trees and a large chalet, in front of which a boy plays with a dog. Guard length 9.25 inches or 23.5cmThe first fan has a break to the upper guard at the shoulder, and to the first gorge stick in. All sections appear present but the leaf is torn at this point. Good colour. The second fan has a break to the upper section of the lower guard. The gilding is dull and there is loss to the gold roundels but those that remain are bright. The leaf has slight damage to two places on the bottom border.
A Grand Tour Period Framed Fan Leaf, with a central cartouche and two side vignettes of classical figures, the reserves in soft powder blue with white scrolling detail very much Wedgewood fashion, complementing the darker blue backgrounds. Centrally, a seated lady, her maid behind, greets two female visitors, all in draped classical robes. To the sides, the vignettes show Minerva, wearing her plumed helmet, in one scene holding the hand of a small child, and in the other dressing for battle, her attendant assisting with her armourThe leaf shows some crazing but no evidence of folding. The colour is good. The frame has some loss in particular to the bottom right side.
A French Brass Adrian Fire Helmet, with raised comb, the brass helmet plate embossed SAPEURS POMPIERS DE SOUPPES over a crowned flaming grenade flanked by laurel and oak leaves, with a plume holder to the side, and with crushed leather liner; three Modern French Kepi, and seven First World War French posters (a.f.) (11). Adrian helmet with small dents to the skull, the chinstrap is broken. Modern kepi are in good condition. Posters are interesting, but the paper is very brittle and there is loss to the corners.
ALFRED F DE PRADES (Fl. 1844-89) "Royal Horse Guards", study of Guardsman in uniform by column, oil on board, signed lower left, inscribed on brass plaque to frame, bears "The Parker Gallery, 2 Albemarle Street, London" label verso, approx 53 cm x 25 cm, together with a companion "Royal Horse Guards", oil on board, signed lower left, approx 53 cm x 25 cm CONDITION REPORTS Some light surface scratches, some accretions to both paintings. There is a small area of loss to the top left edge of the painting with the horse guard with the red plume. There is a scratch and an area of loss to the paint on the other horse guard painting. Under UV light there are areas of touching up to both paintings. There are small areas of touching up to the left hand side of the plumed helmet of one of the guards also some areas to the edge of the same painting and also a small area to the bottom right of that painting. Also that painting appears to have been cleaned at some point. The companion painting has also been cleaned at some point. There appears to be some touching up and repainting to the right hand side of the guard's head on the brickwork, also some overpainting on the brickwork to the left hand side of that painting and a section of the brickwork to the right hand side. Both paintings have general wear and tear commensurate with age and use. See photos for more details.
