Sauvage” in the bronze on the plinth. BARBEDIENNE FONDEUR and stamped with a circular seal having a profile man`s head in the center encircled by REDUCTION MEGANIQUE and A. COLLAS.Condition: One helmet wing missing, caduceus bent. A pair of large silver-plated tazzas, manufactured by John Hardman & Co., Birmingham, c.1846, the lobed bowl with a central roundel engraved with a knight`s helmet and foliage. The stem and outswept base also with lobed decoration, 17.3cm high 27cm diameter. This pair of tazzas, a rare example of Pugin`s domestic metalwork, are two of only four known to survive today among Pugin`s descendants. Literature: For a very similar example, see `A W N Pugin, Master of Gothic Revival`, fig.126, p.370.

1927 pattern Irish Army Vickers steel helmetA nice example complete with leather interior and chin strap. Stamped with makers` mark internally. This `coal scuttle` shape, favoured by the Germans, was actually of English manufacture. As World war II progressed the Defence Forces changed to the same design as British Forces, allegedly so as not to be confused with the Nazis but actually because Vickers had stopped making the `coal scuttle`. Most of the obsolete Vickers helmets were painted white and issued to members of Civil Defence.
