Crowned star mounted with laurel wreath and Garter, the green velvet centre bearing silver harp and separate “Quis Separabit” scroll. Mounted to the base of the wreath, an applied silver tri-part scroll “The Connaught Rangers” . Three loops to reverse. Traces of gilt only. Following the establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922, the regimental Colours were received by HM King George V on 12th June at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle; formal disbandment followed on 31st July, 1922.

VGC Redesignated 122nd Rajputana Infantry under Kitchener’s 1903 reforms; then 6th Bn. 6th Rajputana Rifles in 1922.
Gurkha Rifles Officer’s Wolseley Pattern Foreign Service Helmet A good Khaki drill example, complete with nine fold puggaree, the top fold of dark green cloth. The helmet with leather edging and the interior with leather sweatband and tailor’s details of Herbert Johnson London. Good shape and clean condition.
Edwardian 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers) Attributed Officer’s 1871 pattern helmet. A fine example worn by Major Edward Robert Chanter. Gilt metal skull decorated with laurel leaves; to the front a white metal Garter star bearing gilt metal strap “The Carabiniers” which encircles silvered Royal Crest. Fluted gilt spike supports a white regimental pattern horsehair plume with gilt metal rose boss (Boss loose). Brass rose head boss to either side support the brass velvet-backed chin chain. The interior with a cotton lining. Minor age wear near VGC. Both the helmet and plume are housed in separate metal storage tins. The helmet tin with a brass name plate engraved “E.R. Chanter The Carabiniers” Major Edward Robert Chanter was commissioned on the 7th February 1910, promoted Lieutenant in 1912, he landed in France with this rank on the 16th August 1914. Promoted Captain in July 1915, he served as a Staff Officer and was also appointed Adjutant of the Royal North Devon Yeomanry. Surviving the war he was appointed Major on the 29th August 1923.

Crowned star mounted with laurel wreath and Garter, the black velvet centre bearing silver rose with central gilt metal mount. Mounted to the base of the wreath, a silver tri-part scroll “The York & Lancaster Regiment” with supplementary scroll beneath inscribed “2nd Volunteer Battalion” . Three loops to reverse. French Model 1913 de la Gendarmerie Nationale a Cheval Cuirassier helmet. A good example with nickel bound brass skull. To the front a triangular nickel helmet plate incorporating a flaming grenade device with laurel leaves either side. To the crown, is a nickel metal comb bearing black hair brush (some hair loss), to each side floral leaf decoration. The front of the crown a Medusa’s head looking forward, from the comb a flowing black horse hair plume. A pair of circular nickel bosses, embossed with lion heads, support a set of leather backed chin scales. Provision for plume to wearer’s left side. Original eight tongue adjustable leather lining. GC
Badge. 3rd City of London Rifle Volunteers Edwardian Officer’s helmet plate circa 1902-08. A good rare silvered example. Crowned star mounted with laurel wreath and gilt strap inscribed “Domine Dirige Nos” superimposed on crossed gilt sword and sceptre. Within the strap, a gilt flaming grenade with floreated silver “3” mounted on the ball set on a black velvet ground. To the base of the wreath an applied silver shield of the City of London surmounted by a scroll inscribed “London”. Three loops to reverse. VGC (KK 1568) 3rd London Rifle Volunteer Corps raised in 1861 and became 7th (City of London) Bn. The London Regiment in 1908.

Crowned star mounted with laurel wreath and Garter, the black patent leather centre bearing a silver strung bugle. Mounted on the base of the wreath, a silver tri-part scroll inscribed “The Oxfordshire Lt. Infy”. Three loops to reverse. GC All regiments had the option for Officer’s plates to be in gilt or of gilding metal. The Oxfords invariable wore gilding metal.

Badge. Border Regiment Officer’s helmet plate circa 1905-14. A good scarce gilt example. Crowned star mounted with full laurel wreath, over the wreath, in silver a cross of the Order of the Bath lying upon further laurel sprays. The arms of the cross emblazoned with battle honours, from the Peninsula to South Africa 1899-1902. In the centre of the cross, within a circlet, “Arroyo Dos Molinos 1811”, “China” over the China Dragon, on a ground of white and red enamel. At the bottom of the cross a scroll, “The Border Regt”. (KK 247). Three loops to reverse. Tiny chip to enamel otherwise VGC.

Austrian Hungarian WW1 Army Steel Helmet War Souvenir. A good example of the steel helmet, retaining original green painted finish. The interior with steel band supporting three leather pads, one detached. Retaining original web and leather chinstrap. The neck of the shell and chinstrap with faint writing. This example is complete with original “Soldiers Gift” postage label and US Mail stamps to the crown of the shell. Near VGC for the type.

Victorian Fife Artillery (Militia) Officer’s helmet. A very good and scarce example of a Home Service Pattern blue cloth helmet. The helmet is complete with gilt cross piece, ball and rose bosses supporting a velvet backed chin chain. To the front, a pre 1901 Gilt Regimental pattern helmet plate, a laurel spray replacing the motto and to the base a title scroll “Fife Artillery”. The interior retains leather sweatband and full crimson quilted silk lining. Contained in original metal storage tin, with brass engraved name plaque “Captain W.C. Atherton Fife Artillery”. Gilt fresh GC.

To the front, a gilt metal post 1901 regimental device. The interior retains leather sweatband, with cream silk edging. The interior with tailor’s label of Cater & Co and with ink name of “A.T. Forman Esq”. The helmet retains a good shape, gilt remains bright ... Accompanied by a metal storage tin of the correct pattern. (2 items)

Within an open laurel wreath, a crowned strap with gilt wash bearing Indian inscription, dhow in full sail to centre. The base of the wreath entwined with gilt washed scroll inscribed “Ava Pegu”. Three loops to reverse. VGC Redesignated 69th Punjabis in 1903; became part of 2nd Bn. 2nd Punjab Regiment in 1922.

Crowned star pattern mounted with laurel wreath; mounted in turn with a silver thistle wreath with the Cross of St. Andrew, across the top arms a scroll inscribed “In Veritate Religionis Confido” surmounted by the Royal Crest. Within the wreath, a pierced circlet inscribed “King’s Own Scottish Borderers”. On the centre of the cross, Edinburgh Castle. Below the circlet, a tri-part scroll inscribed “Nisi Dominus Frustra”. Three loops to reverse. VGC The Regular Battalions of the Regiment ceased to wear the Home Service pattern helmet in 1904 when they adopted the Kilmarnock bonnet.

The lining with the tailor’s details of Cater & Co. Remains in good clean condition and a good shape.

A fine die-stamped facetted silvered star mounted with pierced gilt Garter on a blue enamel ground and to the centre, silver Prince of Wales plumes on translucent red enamel ground. Four screw posts to reverse. VGC 3rd Dragoon Guards wore gilt metal helmets with black over red plumes.

A very fine and scarce gilt grenade, the ball mounted with a laurel wreath entwined with battle honours and encircling a crowned strap inscribed “Royal Madras Fusiliers” with floreated “102” to the centre. At the base of the wreath, the Royal Tiger on a scroll inscribed “Spectamur Agendo”. Two of four loops to reverse. VGC (KK 942) Became 1st Bn. Royal Dublin Fusiliers on Friday 1st July 1881. Provenance: Bosleys February, 1998. Lot 11.
Victorian Egypt Campaign / Boer War Officer’s Colonial Pattern Helmet. A good and rare example of classical high crown shape, tailored by Hawkes, 14 Piccadilly. Six-panel white cloth cover with buff leather edging and five fold puggaree. To the crown a brass spike and domed base. The interior with green lining to brim, leather sweatband only part present. Chin chain hooks absent. Overall GC some service wear.

Mounted on the base of the wreath, a silver scroll inscribed “The West Yorkshire Regiment”. Three loops to reverse. Central velvet. Nap worn. Scottish. Fife Mounted Rifles Victorian Officer’s helmet. A good late 19th century example, the skull, front and rear peaks are of black patent leather. To the front, a regimental pattern helmet plate bearing the Thane of Fife on horseback wearing full armour set against a gilt brass ribbed satire with IX below. This in turn mounted onto a four pointed silvered star.; below, a tri-part scroll inscribed “Pro Aris et Focis” with FMR in gilt to centre. To the crown a four pointed star base supports a gilt metal plume holder of Thistle pattern with white horse hair plume. Two star and saltire bosses support a velvet backed silvered chin chain. The interior with original material sweatband. The overall condition is good, some congealing to the skull remains a very good display item. This pattern of helmet was worn with plume from 1864 and was replaced in 1896.

The helmet is fitted with blackened spike and leather backed chin chain. The interior with leather sweatband and tailor’s details of Hawkes & Co. London. Good shape and clean condition, green lining to peakes with some old moth.

WW1 Canadian 7th Infantry Battalion 1st Canadian Division Brodie Steel Helmet. A very good example of the B pattern helmet, the shell with original sand painted green finish, emblazoned to the front with the red device of the 1st Canadian Division, this overlaid with a metal number “7”, indicating the 7th Infantry Battalion. The interior is complete with oilcloth and felt lining and leather chinstrap. The helmet is British made and bears the stamp to the shell of “FS”, indicating made by T. Frith & Sons Limited of Sheffield. The leather interior strap has the ink name of Dance. Overall GC clean condition.
