GREAT WAR - U.S. M1917 'DOUGHBOY' STEEL COMMEMORATIVE COMBAT HELMET 108TH INFANTRY REGIMENT (3RD NEW YORK INFANTRY) (A.E.F) the shell retaining much of its original olive green paint finish, with applied red paint inscriptions and 27th Infantry device 'A.E.F - Belgium - France - 108 Inf. - 1918' lacking lining system. The 108th Infantry suffered 1,763 casualties including 331 dead-in three months of combat at the end of the Great War, most of these casualties occurred in the Hindenburg Line attack. Reasons for the heavy losses included a lack of experienced leadership and the eagerness of the Doughboys, who often made frontal assaults on enemy machine gun nests. Additionally, Allied artillery did not 'soften up' the Germans with a preparatory bombardment before the attack, for fear of hitting Americans lying wounded from an earlier assault.Nevertheless, as 27th Division commander Major General John F. O'Ryan remarked: 'That the 108th Infantry ... should have broken through the maze of wire that existed and in the face of machine guns firing from every trench and nest, lodged one battalion in the main position, now seems an extraordinary feat.'

Yves Thos (French, b. 1935), Au Service Secret de Sa Majeste, offset lithograph in colours, 1969, Eon/United Artists, on two sheets 314 x 119cm (122 x 46in) Other Notes: George Lazenby famously decided not to sign for the Bond series part way through the filming of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, hence his name is not mentioned on the poster. The poster, designed by French artist Yves Thos, looks back at the stance of Sean Connery in "You Only Live Twice" with skis in place of the space helmet. The film, set in Switzerland, includes the classic Bond ski chase with Olympic champion Willy Bogner being filmed skiing backwards. Blofeld's mountaintop hideout was filmed at the half-completed revolving restaurant on Mount Schilthorn before production paid for its completion. Louis Armstrong sung the wedding theme, 'We have all the time in the world' - for Diana Rigg as the new Mrs Bond. For Lazenby's career as Bond, time, sadly, was all too short for both of them.
