A brass fireman`s helmet, applied `H.F.B.` [Horsham Fire Brigade], with raised comb, leather lining and brass chin chain (some repairs), together with a West Sussex Fire Brigade cap, a National Fire Brigade`s Association cap, a matching tunic, a leather belt, two axes, a hose key and a small quantity of buttons.
Fascinating and rare Second World War Arnhem Veterans British Airborne Glider Pilots' Denison smock, dated 1942, Battledress dated 1945, leather flying helmet, goggles in original box, R.A. Dress Uniform with Glider Pilots' wings, post-War red beret, Airborne cloth badges and cufflinks, captured Nazi pennant and officers' epaulette and other militaria - belonged to Staff Sergeant M. B. Nixon, no. 1059305 Glider Pilot Regiment, who fought at Arnhem. Sold with a page from a pilots' log book dated 8.7.43 - Pilot Corp. Nixon - copy of a newspaper article about Nixon's exploits at Arnhem, copy of a photograph of him and crew at R.A.F. Station Earls Colne 1945 - a fascinating lot
A quantity of memorabilia, ephemera, etc relating to Flying Officer S F Rayner, who flew Wellingtons and Lancasters in WWII, including a group of 4 medals comprising 1939-45 star, Atlantic star with France and Germany clasp, Defence and War medals, mounted as worn; 2 Pilot’s Flying Logbooks from August 1943 to July 1962, with a break from 1951 to 1953 when he was flying Bristol Freighters for Silver City Airways, with wartime operational flying mostly confined to “Spam” flights to Rotterdam, bomb dumping, and “Operations-Berchtesgaden” (25-4-45), the 2nd book mostly confined to Chipmunks, the final entry being July 1962; 3 sets of cloth pilot’s wings (2 KC, 1QC) and 42 Squadron QG blazer badge; “Pilot’s Notes” for Wellington, Chipmunk, and Meteor NF12; Commercial Pilot’s Licence dated 9.2.52; Air Ministry group photograph in front of a Lancaster somewhere in the middle east; several souvenir booklets; various “Flight” photographs of aircraft types; and a canvas flying helmet with oxygen mask and R/T leads, named to “Rayner”, and with date coded label for 1962. A good rare early pattern Third Reich double decal Luftwaffe Paratrooper’s helmet, the scratch finished camouflage painted skull with almost obliterated Luftwaffe eagle and tricolour shield decals, the inner rim stamped “CKL 71”, with early style bolt heads and stout wire cage for attaching foliage, the leather lining with liner size stamp and manufacturer’s code “RB-NpO-6250/0201”, with leather chinstraps to which is attached an old typed postal label, dated 21. Dec 1943 bearing an American 9 Cents stamp, from “Sgt M Grant 2455083 62 ABN DIV 508 PIN Regt” to “Ms P Mitchell 7387 Ace Ave, Wash. DC”. GC (some service wear) Plate 4

An early 19th century US infantry officer’s dress sword, straight fullered blade 31”, etched with eagle and banner of 13 stars, bold USA in panel, flaming torch, wreath and trophy within foliate panels, ornamental brass hilt, the turn down shell guard embossed with eagle on flags, crossguard, flattened scroll knucklebow into helmet and plume pommel, round fluted ivory grip. George III silver cream jug London 1791, makers Peter and Ann Bateman, of tapering helmet form with reeded loop handle, beaded rim and bright cut engraved leaf border, the front with vacant cartouche, set on a square pedestal base with contemporary engraved initials, probably relating to a Channel Islands family marriage `D.R.B. * M.H.R.`, weight 100 grams 6in (15cm) high.
