A VERY RARE ICON SHOWING THE ARCHANGEL MICHAEL AND JOSHUA, SON OF NUN Russian, Palekh, 19th century Tempera on wood panel with double kovcheg. Executed with gold details. St. Michael is shown an angel with sword drawn, standing before a kneeling man in armor and helmet. Two selected saints on the borders: Andrey and Athanasios. Minor areas of retouching. 31 x 26.8 cm. SEHR SELTENE IKONE MIT DEM ERZENGEL MICHAEL UND DEM HEILIGEN HEERFÜHRER JOSUA Russland, Palech, 19. Jh. Verbund zweier Bretter mit zwei Rückseiten-Sponki (einer verloren). Doppeltes Kowtscheg, Eitempera auf Kreidegrund, partielle Vergoldung. 31 x 26,8 cm. Josua stammt aus dem israelitischen Stamm Ephraim. Erstmals tritt Josua in Ex 17,9 EU im Auftrag Moses als Heerführer im Kampf der Israeliten gegen Amalek auf. Josua gehört als Anführer des Stammes Ephraim zusammen mit Kaleb, dem Sohn Jefunnes aus dem Stamm Juda, zu den Kundschaftern der zwölf Stämme, die die Eroberung des Landes vorbereiten sollen. Die Kundschafter finden eine Riesentraube und bringen sie mit ins Lager. Josua und Kaleb wollen die Eroberung vorantreiben, während die Führer der anderen Stämme zaudern und nicht bei der Eroberung teilnehmen wollen. In einer Theophanie in Jos 5,13 EU begegnet Josua in Gilgal einem Mann mit Schwert, einem Gottesboten, wie sich herausstellt. Diese Beschreibung setzt diese Ikone bildlich um. Franz Adam1815 Mailand - 1886 MünchenReiter mit Raupenhelm - Feldmarschall Johann Josef Wenzel Graf von Radetzky zu PferdZwei Gemäldeminiaturen. R. u. signiert und 1831 datiert bzw. u. M. signiert und 1852 datiert. Öl auf Lwd. auf Karton bzw. Öl auf Weißblech. 10,9 x 8,9 bzw. 11 x 8,8 cm. Besch. Rahmen min. besch. Franz Adam war der zweite Sohn des Künstlers Albrecht Adam und Schüler seines Vaters. Bereits 1848 hatte Albrecht Adam, nachdem er in Mailand Radetzky vorgestellt worden war, ein Bildnis desselben, auf einem Apfelschimmel sitzend, geschaffen (Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen, Neue Pinakothek, WAF 11). 1858 präsentierte schließlich Franz Adam sein eigenes, "nach dem Leben gemaltes", lebensgroßes Reiterbildnis des Feldmarschalls auf der Münchener Kunstausstellung. Die Zusammenarbeit der Mitglieder der Künstlerfamilie Adam miteinander ist in vielen Fällen belegt. Es kann davon ausgegangen werden, dass Franz Adam die Studien seines Vaters zu dessen Radetzky-Bildnis kannte, bei unserem Gemälde aus diesen Vorbildern schöpfte, um dann später sein großes Reiterbildnis Radetzkys anzufertigen. Bhutanese Helmet Possibly 18th or 19th Century, with large iron bowl raised from a single plate and fitted with a nickel brow piece engraved with a lotus flower amidst scrolls and with a row of flower heads; subsequently ‘improved’ with added silver mounts and ear pieces set with red and green cabochon pastes (?) including plume holder and a border of lapets. Good condition.
Rare Possibly Early Japanese Helmet Kabuto in the Korean Fashion, tall bowl made from 4 iron plates, the joins each covered with a narrow plate secured by 4 pairs of rivets, iron rosette finial to crown, peak applied with pierced geometric device and bordered by woven brass wire binding (incomplete) and with fitting to take a (missing) maidate. Height 25cms. Good condition, shikoro missing.

Angell, Slough Volunteer Fire Brigade Slough Volunteer Fire Brigade Medal, with long service brooch bar and three clasps: 1881-1888; 1888-1895; and 1895-1902, the obverse featuring a fireman’s helmet and scroll with the letters ‘S.V.F.B.’, the reverse impressed ‘Fireman W. Angell 1974-1881’, in its damaged fitted case of issue; Windsor Fire Brigade Queen Victoria Golden Jubilee Medal, bronze, with fireman’s helmet suspension and pin, the helmet inscribed ‘F.B.A. Windsor June 23rd 1887’, good very fine --- Ernest William Angell was born in Chalvey, near Slough, Buckinghamshire in 1886, the son of William Angel and was commissioned Second Lieutenant into the Royal Garrison Artillery on 26 February 1917. He served with them in France /Flanders from 20 October 1917 and relinquished his commission on 30 September 1921, retaining the rank of Captain. William Angell, father of the above, was born in Cippenham, Buckinghamshire in 1852. He was a carpenter by occupation and was an active member of Slough Volunteer Fire Brigade for upwards of 30 years. He died in 1905.
A 19th Century Prussian/German gilt metal and brown leather wallet:, one side with a crowned eagle atop a crowned armour helmet with scrolls to either side, the other with a gilt crown over initial, the clasp in the form of a sheathed dagger, red silk lined interior, together with a manuscript note 'Given to me at the farewell dinner of King William at the Prefecture by the Crown Prince on the 5th March 1871', also a card for 'Furst von Bismarck', another for 'Lord Ado Russell', and one for 'Lord Ampthill', and a ribbon for an iron cross, 14cm long.*Notes Wilhelm I (1797-1888) was King of Prussia and became the first Emperor of a unified Germany in 1871 until his death in 1888.
