Lot 349

Imperial German Prussian Reserve Officers Pickelhaube, interesting example of a officers / senior NCO’s pickelhaube constructed with a fibre body and mounted with a short NCO’s style spike on circular spike base with brass fixing stars. Prussian reserve pattern helmet plate without motto, and the silver reserve cross has been mounted to the side of the helmet, covered by the scaled chinstrap. Officers pattern Reichs and Prussian state cockades and brass scaled chinstraps. Interior of the helmet has the original leather sweatband and green cloth lining. Interior of the shell with a blue felt covering which has a 1914 dated paper label attached. Green covering to the underside of the front peak and red covering to the underside of the rear peak. Some light wear, crazing to the shell and dulling of the brass mounts but otherwise an interesting example with the unexplained movement of the reserve cross.

Lot 350

WW1 German Wartime Produced Officers Pickelhaube, good example of a wartime production officers pickelhaube for the state of Prussia. The helmet retains the original officers Prussian helmet plate which retains nearly all of its original gilt finish. Gilt front trim, rear spine and spike base securing stars. The scaled chinstraps, spike base and officers spike are all made from the later zinc metal and the original gilt wash finish has worn away leaving the base metal exposed, this is often the case with wartime produced helmets. Officers Reichs and Prussian state cockades still present. Helmet retains the original officers tan leather sweatband and artificial silk lining to the interior. The helmet is contained in its original leather storage case with leather securing straps. Overall a very good example of an original wartime produced helmet.

Interior of the helmet retains the original other ranks leather liner. Screw post fittings to the reverse of the plate with brass washers in place. Interior of the shell, behind the plate is deeply struck “LG 15”. Rear peak stamped “56”. Some polishing to the exterior fittings but overall a nice example.
