*Racing Helmet. An early 20th-c. Motor Racing driver`s or rider`s helmet by James Grose & Son London, c. 1920s, of shellacked linen overlaid composition construction with moleskin lining and side & neck-protection with adjustable chin-strap and detachable leather peak, size 7, with maker`s and Auto Cycle Union certification labels to inside crown, appears almost unused original condition, together with a pair of period racing goggles (replacement strap) James Grose were one of the first manufacturers of specialised protective headwear for the racing fraternity, when safety issues became more requisite as speeds advanced rapidly after WWI. This is an excellent example of an early-pattern production helmet. (2)

The liner, both leather and fabric, is intact and all nuts, screws, stars, and chinstrap are intact and accounted for. The leather is in excellent shape with no crazing at all. Everything is tight.
