Top comb with relief of dragons. Large rosette side bosses with linked brass leather backed chinstrap. Complete with the original leather liner, some damage and wear. Some denting to the brass shell but generally a good example of a scarce fire helmet.

Royal Navy Officers Foreign Service Helmet of Captain H R H Vaughan, Secretary to Admiral Lord Cork during the Attack on Narvik in 1940, good example of the white cork foreign service helmet with folded pagri with top band in navy blue. Complete with the top vent and thin brown leather chinstrap. Green cloth lined underside with leather sweatband and crimson artificial silk lining. Portsmouth tailors details to the leather panel to the crown of the helmet. Housed in the original japanned storage tin with white painted owners name, “H.R.H. Vaughan R.N”. Some dents to the tin and the helmet is dusty. Herbert Reginald Henry Vaughan was the son of Herbert Stanley Vaughan, store officer in Hong Kong 1899-1911. Herbert Vaughan served in the Royal Navy between 1911 and 1945. He served on HMS Triad in the Persian Gulf between 1928-1930, he would have worn this helmet during that time. During the second world war, he served on the staff of Lord Cork and was present during the attack on Narvik in 1940.

WW2 Period Royal Navy Officers Foreign Service Helmet, near mint condition example of the foreign service helmet with cloth covered cork body. Central pagri with the top band in navy blue. Complete with the vent top and the original thin brown leather chinstrap. Interior of the helmet remains in near mint condition with leather sweatband and artificial silk lining. Helmet is housed in the original metal japanned storage tin with remains of paper label with ink name, “Mr H L DICKSON RN BARRACKS”. Locking catch missing from tin but the helmet is an excellent example.

British Tropical Camouflaged Dispatch Riders Steel Combat Helmet, interesting example of a wartime period dispatch riders helmet which retains much of the original tropical paint finish, indicating wear in probably Sicily and North Africa. To the front of the helmet is painted divisional sign of the 78th Infantry division, this was possibly done at a later stage than the tropical camouflage finish. Interior of the helmet retains the original liner system with horsehair padding. Sweatband with BMB mark but the date is not clear as the stitch lines go through the date. Overall a good example of an original tropical camouflaged dispatch riders helmet.

Imperial German Prussian Other Ranks Pickelhaube, good untouched example of the standard pattern Prussian other ranks pickelhaube as worn at the early stages of WW1. The leather bodied helmet is complete with its original other ranks brass helmet plate, state and reichs cockades and leather chinstrap. Brass front trim and rear spine section. Complete with other ranks pattern circular spike base with domed rivets and short pattern spike. Interior of the helmet retains its original leather liner, but this has become dry and some small sections missing towards the rear. Remains of ink issue stampings can be seen in the rear peak but these are not readable now. Overall a good example of a standard Prussian other ranks helmet.

Imperial German Prussian Tin Pickelhaube, good untouched example of the black metal / tin pickelhaube with other ranks brass Prussian helmet plate, missing the orb, Prussian state cockade and reichs cockade. Other ranks leather chinstrap still present. Original brass spike base with moulded securing pins and non removable brass other ranks spike. Brass rear spine fitted to the shell. Interior retains the original leather liner and felt padding to the top. Some scuffs to the exterior and a couple of minor dents but otherwise a good example of a scarce helmet which are often classed as ersatz. The famous German toy maker Bing was responsible for manufacturing may of these tin helmets.

Imperial German Prussian Officers Pickelhaube, untouched example of a leather bodied helmet with officers Prussian helmet plate to the centre. Scaled officers chinstraps with reichs and state cockades. Officers spike on circular base with securing stars. Interior with brown leather sweatband and cloth officers lining. Green and red coverings to the undersides of the peaks. Helmet fittings have dark uncleaned patina, the leather covering has cracked and has sections missing from the rear.

Scarce German Made Austrian M-17 Steel Combat Helmet, interesting example of a German made M-17 shell which has been shipped and finished in Austria. The helmet retains much of its original Austrian light brown paint finish to the exterior and interior. Metal liner band and three leather liner pads. Austrian style chinstrap fittings and Austrian pattern webbing and leather chinstrap. The shell is stamped “ET64”. Some pitting and wear to the shell but generally still a good variation of the Austrian pattern combat helmet from WW1. Rare WW1 Austrian Berndorfer Steel Combat Helmet, being a good example of the very hard to find special pattern Austrian steel combat helmet. Retaining much of its original Austrian light brown paint finish to the shell. Evidence of a post home label once being present to the reverse. Interior of the shell has the Berndorfer bear stamping and size 66 stamp. Metal liner band and three leather liner pads. The liner pads have at some point had a oil protective put over them. Part of a leather chinstrap remains. The helmet shows wear and has some areas of pitting but generally still a good example of a rare WW1 steel helmet. Imperial German M-17 Camouflaged Steel Combat Helmet, fine example of a standard model 1917 steel combat helmet which is finished in a fine camouflage paint finish in the typical form with green, brown and mustard yellow with black separation lines. Interior of the helmet has the metal liner band and white leather pads. Shell is stamped “BF 64”. Some scuffs to the exterior but the camouflage finish remains bright and clear.

Small bullet hole to the lower skirt and exit damage to the rim on the other side of the shell. Interior retains the original liner band and one leather liner pad. Remains of the original lather chinstrap which has become hard and brittle. Shell is stamped “Si 66”. Overall good untouched example.

Rare Imperial German Model 1918 Ear Cut Out Steel Combat Helmet, untouched example of the scarce model German helmet from WW1 which was issued to cavalry and signals troops. The helmet has the remains of the original field grey paint finish to the exterior and interior of the shell. Metal liner band to the interior with three white leather liner pads, these show wear and some areas of damage. The ET64 mark can just be made out to the inside of the shell, some heavy pitting to this section. Some surface rusting to the shell and light pitting. Overall a very good example of a very rare Imperial German steel helmet. Helmet has a collection label attached, this helmet is part of a small Scandinavian collection we are selling in this auction.

Post 1902 Royal Marine Light Infantry Officers Home Service Helmet Plate, universal pattern officers helmet plate with crown replacing top arm, laurel spray with anchor and silvered strung bugle to the bottom and scroll with Gibraltar to the top. Pierced circlet with motto “PER MARE PER TERRAM” set upon blue enamel backing. Silvered globe to the centre of the bade. Three lug fittings to the reverse. We believed that the crown was changed from Victorian once Edward VII took the throne.

Evidence of where decals have once been present on the helmet. Interior is complete with its leather liner and damaged leather chinstrap. The shell is stamped “EF66” and “20881”. Rear interior skirt is painted with the original owners name “RINKE”. Good untouched example.

The exterior of the shell has been painted in a battleship grey finish which is typical of shore establishment helmets and also those who served on armed ships. Interior of the helmet retains the original leather liner. Some surface pitting to the interior of the helmet. Shell is stamped “Q64” but the batch number is not clear. Leather liner is dry and has flaked in places

Comb fitted to the top of the helmet. One side with national tri-colour. Complete with civilian pattern liner to the interior and top pad. German Soldier Hero Range Plaque, interesting alloy plaque showing the profile figure of a German soldier wearing transitional pattern steel helmet. Mounted within a silver painted wooden surround with small triangular hook to the top. 13 ½ cms in diameter.

Royal Air Force C-Type Flying Helmet Ensemble of Flight Lieutenant W (Wally) Walters D.F.C, untouched example of a brown leather 1st pattern C-Type flying helmet complete with leather chinstrap. Helmet is complete with its original wiring loom and headphones. Jack plug attached to the wiring loom. Helmet is complete with an original G-Type oxygen mask which is complete with mic and original rubber hose with clip to end. Copper wire to the nose section of the oxygen mask. Set is also complete with a pair of RAF Mk VII flying goggles which retain much of the original blue paint finish to the exterior. Stamped to the centre of the goggles with crowned AM and “22C/826 1858”. Goggles also complete with the original strap. The set has been mounted to a polystyrene display head for a long time which has resulted in the helmet almost becoming moulded in this form. This set was acquired by the current vendor from the original owner of the set, Flight Lieutenant W (Wally) Walters DFC, who served in the RAF from 31st April 1941 until 13th May 1946. He served in the following units, 31 ANS, 9 AFU, 15 OTU, 428 Squadron, 82 OTU, 1655 MTU, 163 Squadron, 571 Squadron and 1383 TCU. Good untouched set.
