A late 19th/early 20th Century novelty walking cane, the ivory grip carved as a Romanesque warrior's head, his helmet carved with a roaring tiger to the front, yellow metal collar below with maker's(?) mark PB and vacant shield shaped cartouche, the ebonised shaft with metal ferrule, 91cm long over all.

A helmet-shaped milk jug in the Irish taste, the wavy rim over wavy-fluted body, on lion mask-capped feet, engraved to the front with an armorial crest, possibly Fitzgeralds of Leinster, and to the base with the initials 'R.O.C.', lacking hallmarks or maker's mark. 6¼oz troy (198g).

dating: late 16th Century provenance: Swiss, A burgonet's skull in one piece, with high comb (repairs and small damages on the border); the brim and nape-guard in one piece with the skull, both sharp, with recessed margin, rimmed with fluted decoration and file roped, engraved, twisted border. Black repainting inside and some recent repairs. Mobile cheek-pieces with aerator holes and border en suite with the rest of the helmet. Nape-guard with barely readable stamp (Nuremberg?). Neck-collar with file roped, twisted neckline, two neck plates on both sides and front-plates with gleanings. Breast-plate ribbed in the center with well evident tapul, engraved with Swiss cross in the center, neckline and pauldron small-plates with thick, engraved, twisted roping, two-plate loin-guard; sides with gleanings. Back-plate with recessed margins, fluted decoration at the neckline and loin-guard in one piece with dorsal plate. Swiss pauldrons (two revomved parts on the back), provided with thin wings. Complete brassards; upper arm-cannons with festooned, chiselled border and engraved, twisted rotation channel, elbow-piece with flaps in one piece; file roped, engraved, twisted borders. Nine-plate tassets (one with repair and one of recent replacement). A fine ensemble with uncommon features. Supporto not included. height as shown circa 120 cm.
dating: second quarter of the 19th Century provenance: France, Curved, single-edged blade in fine damask with thin groove on the back, engraved with letters on one side, and silver-inlaid crescent on the other; nice, brass hilt, claw-shaped quillon, quillon block with a helmet above silver, crossed axes, pommel shaped as lion's head, horn, spiral grip. Leather scabbard with brass mounts and two, iron suspension rings. length 92.5 cm.
dating: Early 19th Century provenance: Kingdom of Naples, Curved, single-and false-edged blade with double groove near to the back, first part engraved with an officer on a horse, star, trophy and braided bands. Brass hilt with remains of fire gilding, langets with a man with plumed helmet, grooved quillon and guard, pommel shaped as lion's head; ebony, checkered grip. Interesting, completely brass scabbard with remains of gilding, three plates in bass-relief in the front part, telling a Napoleonic battle, the first with Artillery field, the central one with battlefield, the last one back in the field after the victory. The rest and back part decorated with floral and geometrical motifs. Two suspension rings. length 100 cm.
dating: 1860-70 provenance: France, Straight, double-edged blade with double groove, ribbed in the center, base with Klingenthal marking and stamps. Exceptional, silver grip portraying a hunter with helmet, powder flask and bag that is hitting a bear at his feet with the butt of his hunting percussion gun, Wooden, leather-covered scabbard with silver mounts, engraved and partially gilded with bands and floral motifs, the hook decorated with an owl's head above with a medallion with monogram and hunting horn; the chape with hunting still life in high-relief. length 63.5 cm.
A SECOND WORLD WAR CASUALTY GROUP OF THREE MEDALS TO SERGEANT R.J. COCKSHOTT, 149 SQUADRON, ROYAL AIR FORCE VOLUNTEER RESERVE comprising the 1939-45 Star, Air Crew Europe Star and War Medal 1939-45, all unnamed as issued, unmounted, with Air Council slip, in original postal despatch box addressed to his widow; together with a Squadron group photograph on and before an aircraft; a French leaflet commending the R.A.F.; the telegram sent to Sgt Cockshott's wife informing her that her husband is missing; two silver R.A.F. sweetheart brooches; and a leather flying helmet. Note: 1163110, Sergeant Robert John Cockshott, 149 Sqn, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, the son of Francis Geoffrey and Alice Eileen Cockshott and wife of Sheila Cranston Cockshott of Derby, died on 29th June 1943, at the age of 22. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour at Runnymede Memorial (Panel 145).
