[Indian colonial horse racing interest] A Victorian silver twin handled trophy cup and cover by John, Edward, Walter & John Barnard (Barnard & Sons Ltd), London 1868, with a classical female finial to the anthemion decorated centre domed cover, beaded angular handles, four oval reserves, one with a classical horse racing scene, on a multi knop spreading pedestal, presentation engraved, 34cm (13 1/2in) high, 1366g (43.95 oz). The presentation reads `Presented by His Highness Sir Jaswant Singjee, K.C.S.I. Takhoor Saheb of Bhownuggur Kattywak Race Meeting January. 1869. Won By`. Bhaunagar, or Bhavnagar, was a native state of India in the Kathiawar agency, Bombay. The maharaja or Takur Sahib from 1854 to 1870 was Sir Jashwantsinhji Bhavsinhji (1827-1870) of the famous clan of the Gohel Rajputs of Kathiawar.
